Reporting to the Vice-President, Materials, the Quality Director is responsible for Technical Services across all Dufferin Materials lines of business, including Aggregates, Ready-Mix and HMA. Accountable for developing, implementing, and periodically evaluating product offerings ensuring finished products meet the quality, integrity, and efficiency standards set out by the organization. Through continuous collaboration and cross-functional communication, the Quality Director will provide leadership and vision, inspiring and motivating staff to achieve excellence within the sector.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the quality function from new product conception through to warranty analysis to ensure customers receive the highest standard mix possible.
  • Create and implement best practices, strategy, policies, procedures, and systems to aid and improve business performance.
  • Ensure strategies and processes are in place to meet business and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery of targets without compromising design.
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
  • Monitor quality of raw materials and make appropriate recommendations based on findings.
  • Assist in continuous improvement activities throughout the business ensuring that problems are prevented and that customer requirements are met with any problems resolved effectively and economically.
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the quality strategy highlighting product improvement and sustainability concepts.
  • Report on Quality activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of relevant KPIs.
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
  • Drive any necessary culture change and improvement in business performance to deliver strategic goals.
  • Support and drive Health and Safety processes and procedures within the organization implementing a behavioral approach to safety and a zero-tolerance culture.


Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Civil or Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in asphalt or construction materials testing including managing field and lab testing operations.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a cross-functional team, within a matrix-driven environment.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and communicate appropriate metrics, interpret trends, and adjust strategies as needed in response to changing market conditions and/or role requirements.
  • Experience leading a quality function with a proven track record in strategic quality leadership delivering effective quality strategies, policies, processes and systems.
  • Experience operating in and influencing at a strategic level.
  • Customer focused & adaptable, with superb communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer skills – Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
