We are seeking a summer intern. The desired area of interest is Construction Management or Civil Engineering.  The intern season will begin between mid-May/ 2024 and may run through August 2024. The locations are located in Draper, Utah.

Position Overview

Interns will be educated, trained, and exposed to the day-to-day functions of the asphalt operations of the Company under the close direction of an experienced supervisor/manager or Plant Manager. Work assignments and on-the-job experience will be relevant to the Intern’s course of study or technical skill.

 

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Participate in learning the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the Asphalt Department.

  • Study and understand the relationship of the assigned Asphalt Department and their responsibilities to the Company and the Organization as a whole.

  • Understand the job duties and responsibilities of each member in the Asphalt Department.

  • Be exposed to the Asphalt Department’s reporting and regulatory responsibilities.

  • Observe and study techniques and traits of experienced employees in the Asphalt Department in order to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for completing departmental duties and the performance of the department.

  • May be assigned projects and/or tasks by all the Asphalt Department’s leadership.

  • Works in the Quality Control Department to understand the importance of the relationship between quality production and a quality aggregate/asphalt product.

  • Wears a hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection and respirator as needed.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Current enrollment in accredited Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field degree program.

 

Work Requirements

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail oriented

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions

  • Willingness to work in a team environment

  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills, including basic algebra.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license.

  • Flexible hours working around class times.  At least 40 hours per week during summer months.
