Lyman-Richey Sand & Gravel Company, A CRH Company, has been supplying aggregate materials for construction and development projects for more than 130 years. What began with a single clamshell dredge and a horse and wagon has evolved into a large-scale production and trucking business with several plants in the Omaha metro area along Nebraska’s Platte River.

 

 

Position Overview

The Plant Superintendent will be responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of one or more aggregate pits. This includes managing the production, equipment, and inventory of various construction aggregate materials, as well as directing and leading employees.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Fuctions)

  • Promotes safe operating practices through employee engagement to identify, report and correct safety concerns.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned aggregate pits, which may include crushing, screening, mining, and reclamation operations.
  • Direct production to meet quality and quantity requirements and coordinate adjustments to the production schedule as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.)
  • Ensure all operations are compliant with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, Lockout/Tagout, safety, environmental regulations and other federal, state and local regulations and laws.
  • Communicates with Area Manager and other department staff on issues affecting personnel, safety, maintenance, production efficiency, product quality, current and upcoming projects, and competition.
  • Responsible for training and development of team, scheduling, performance management, and effective leadership of hourly workforce.
  • Responsible for ensuring plants maintain State and DOT certifications, environmental inspection and reporting, fuel reports, pre/post trip reports as well as any other documentation required by Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the operation of aggregate mining and/or ready mixed concrete facilities or other directly related industry experience preferred.
  • ACI and IDOT Certification as directed or the ability to obtain within a resonable time.

 

Work Requiements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as delivery tickets, safety rules and procedure manuals as well as carry out written or verbal instructions.

  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regulary lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and ocassionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways and access elevated platforms.

 

Work Enviroment

While performing field duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected on a daily basis. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
