OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska.  OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction.  Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots.  Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.

 

 

Position Overview

The Asphalt Paving Foreman, responsible for the supervision of their Paving and Construction Crew as well as performing various duties on construction and/or paving projects. The Foreman handles the majority of aspects related to personnel management on site. They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to management.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of the crew.
  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, equipment operations, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver.
  • Daily reports for personnel, production, quantities, equipment utilized.
  • May be required to use pressure washer and/or sandblasting equipment.
  • Identify, understand, and report safety hazards, poor behavior, and unsafe actions immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in leading a hot mix asphalt crew or other related industry experience preferred.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.  Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: face shield, safety (hard toe) shoes, and coveralls.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 certification.

  • Knowledge of asphalt types, classifications and materials.
  • Knowledge of paving techniques, best practices, and paving equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment, as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
