Position:  Occupational Health & Safety Advisor
Term: Full Time
Location: Mosport and Teedon (East & North) 
Start Date:  June 2024


Overview: 
Reporting to the Supervisor, Occupational Health and Safety, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and administration of OH&S program activities and projects to support business objectives. The incumbent will partner with local business leaders to ensure compliance and provide day-to-day leadership in the continued building of a strong culture of safety.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by; coordinating, promoting, and conducting various OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System; conducting OH&S assessments and periodic audits; implementing health and safety strategies and action plans; coaching and advising management of OH&S policies, procedures, practices, and legislative requirements.
  • Continue building a strong safety culture by; promoting the philosophy that safety is a value associated with every priority, and is non-negotiable, and promote a safe and healthy work environment based on employee involvement, ownership, teamwork, education, training, and leadership.
  • Working closely with Regional HR Services to co-ordinate training and development program for business unit by; analyzing and assessing training needs; vendor selection; developing and delivering training presentations; updating training records
  • Maintain Management Knowledge by, providing advice, counsel and assistance to management in areas of OH&S.
  • Complies with Federal, Provincial and Local Legal requirements by; studying existing and new legislation enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Working closely with OH&S Services for supporting WSIB claim management by; assisting OH&S Services Manager, site supervisors and managers in the assessment of accident investigation, claims adjudication and management of the Early & Safe Return to Work Program.
  • As required, liaise with external and internal contacts, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Workplace Safety Associations, and other business units within Holcim.

 

Position Dimensions (Core Competencies):

  • Sound knowledge of OH&S principles, policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Sound knowledge of business operating processes and procedures
  • Sound working knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations WSIA, OHSA.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (word, excel, project)
  • 5 years of experience in Health and Safety from heavy industry environment preferred.
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License (Class G or equivalent)

 

Education:

  • University degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and acquired work experience.
