Position summary:

The Assistant Controller Book to Report will be responsible for assisting the Manager B2R in managing the delivery of financial services for CRH Canada Group including the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting financial statements.

 
Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and perform advanced processing of information within the general accounting, accounts reconciliations, inter-company, cash management, lease, pension accounting, ARO, and financial reporting areas so that operational excellence and customer service objectives are realized, including transactions of a more complex and sensitive nature
  • Perform advanced processing for acquisition and divestment and joint venture accounting
  • Accounting memos and research, apply IFRS and US GAAP principles
  • Supervise day-to-day accounting functions, relevant portions of the monthly and year end close process, including completion of journal entries, account reconciliation and variance analysis
  • Work closely with CRH treasury departments in the execution and reporting of defined cash transactions  
  • Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting financial reports
  • Identify and implement corrective actions in all areas of internal control (e.g. transactions and trends) or raise these to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of CRH financial accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles, internal control standards, and statutory reporting requirements, as this relates to general accounting, inter-company, cash management, pension, ARO, divestment and acquisition and financial reporting.
  • Month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including completion of accruals and allocations
  • Review the preparation and maintenance of accounting ledgers, journals, and associated worksheets, schedules, financial statements and reports, studies, and analyses, as required
  • Deliver timely and accurate information to Corporate Accounting, Tax Accounting and Plant Controller for financial reporting, tax reporting, and commission reporting purposes.
  • Working with the Consolidations and Reporting Team, perform accounting research, interpretation, and implementation as necessary.
  • Coordinate external and internal audits for CRH Canada for area of responsibilities
  • Willingly accept work outside the normal scope or responsibility

 
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience working in accounting or finance required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business with a major in accounting 
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA, CA) 
  • Big 6 audit firm experience preferred
  • Construction or manufacturing experience is an asset
  • SAP/Hyperion knowledge and a demonstrated ability to learn new systems 
  • Knowledge of SOX and internal controls 
  • Very proficient in using MS Office applications
  • Financial reporting experience in producing financial statements in accordance with IFRS/US GAAP
