Position Overview

 

The Application Owner is accountable for ensuring a high level of application performance and customer service for an assigned suite of applications.  They also ensure that their applications deliver measurable business value and are fit for purpose.  They lead and develop a high-performing team of Solutions Engineers and Applications Specialists and provide the coaching, training, and accountability they need to successfully fulfil their responsibilities.  They work with the business and IT to create and implement the governance, training, and support models needed to successfully deliver and maintain the capabilities and features of their applications.  They stay actively engaged with key stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment on solutions and timely and cost effective execution of projects and enhancements.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Strategy
    • Build and maintain strong working relationships with IT customers, business leaders, peers, cross-functional groups, and vendors.
    • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure business requirements and objectives are clearly defined and value is achieved.
    • Remain knowledgeable in IT standards, technological developments, industry trends, and general best practices.
    • Ensure application roadmaps align with business objectives and strategy
    • Collaborate and coordinate with IT, the business, and vendors on the development, design and implementation of new applications and changes to existing solutions.
    • Establish a program for managing and monitoring software licenses to create transparency to licensing costs and ensure costs are allocated correctly
    • Identify and implement ways to monitor and measure business value
    • Identify and document opportunities for improvement
  • Management
    • Manage the team responsible for your assigned suite of applications; ensuring that the team delivers measurable value to both the business and IT.
    • Create and implement an effective and scalable staffing model by analyzing current trends and demand and working with IT and business leaders to understand future needs
    • Mentor and coach team members by evaluating their skills and capabilities and then creating Coaching Action Plans and Personal Development Plans to help them improve.
    • Effectively utilize your team by prioritizing assignments, providing oversight and assistance, resolving roadblocks, and ensuring they are adequately trained.
    • Ensure team adherence to defined project management methodologies with a focus on prioritizing tasks, managing resource and project constraints, monitoring project activities, and effectively communicating with project champions/sponsors
    • Submit annual budgets, conduct monthly reviews, and provide timely reforecasts
  • Accountable for the enterprise readiness of assigned applications
    • Ensure that an application governance structure exists that creates visibility to and predictable execution of projects and enhancements as well as a mechanism for making decisions regarding prioritization, developing standards, establishing application roadmaps, processing feedback, etc.
    • Create policies, procedures and guidelines that allow for effective and efficient allocation of team resources
    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of RACI models and project plans relating to your applications
    • Facilitate the creation and implementation of standards and best practices by working with IT, the business, and vendors to identify, define, recommend, and use best practices across all of CRH AMAT.
    • Conduct peer-reviews of solutions designed by Technical Engineers and Solutions Engineers to ensure adherence to standards and best practices
    • Accountable for the timely resolution of issues, incidents, and requests for assigned applications. 
    • Lead cross functional teams in the creation of application Service Level Agreements (SLA) as well as the service strategy and application support model needed to meet them
    • Develop, implement, and maintain an application support escalation matrix outlining critical and common support issues and the troubleshooting, resolution, and escalation path for each
    • Ensure that support personnel are interacting with and assisting end users, troubleshooting and resolving problems, conducting root cause analysis, and taking proactive action to prevent future issues.
    • Review and approve change requests submitted to the Change Advisory Board for their applications
    • Coordinates and verifies the training of support team members
    • Establish and direct a training program for end users that ensures the business has a clear understanding of the application and stays up to date on the latest technology
    • Oversees the creation and maintenance of training guides, video tutorials, web based training, knowledge base solutions, and best practices documentation
    • Test new releases and software products and update documentation as needed.
    • Approve and coordinate the deployment of application upgrades, patches, etc.
  • Vendor Operations & Support
    • Provide operational oversight of vendors and 3rd party service providers to ensure that SLAs are met, project work is completed on time and on budget, reported issues are resolved, and gaps in their solutions are addressed.
    • Review and sign off on quotes and purchase agreements for accuracy and ensuring that quotes follow the governance process
    • Ensure that invoices are distributed to the business and paid in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned.
    • Performs reporting and administrative functions as required.
    • Participate in special projects or perform other duties as requested.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times while representing the company 
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required 

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Computer related discipline, or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of experience IT and/or engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience of software deployment, support, training, and maintenance
  • 3+ years of experience managing IT professionals and working with distributed teams
  • 2+ years of experience with plant production, transportation management, or financial systems preferred

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Ability to travel (overnight) as required based on business needs up to 35%.

Physical Requirements

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to drive up to 5 hours for onsite services.
  • Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person
  • Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.

  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours in response to critical incidents or business-impacting project deliverables and the ability to be on call at a scheduled rotation.
