Position Overview

 

The Capital Projects Manager is the point person for large capital construction and equipment improvement projects for the Infrastructure Products Group (IPG). This position is responsible for the implementation of all assets as it relates to construction and facility improvements throughout the group. You will be responsible for working alongside the business leadership, operational teams, engineers, finance, and performance teams to lead and deliver large projects while ensuring project return on investment and business growth. As the manager of the Capital PMO, you will establish project management governance and standards that support and drive the IPG growth strategy. The responsibilities of the PMO Manager include managing the day-to-day activities in the PMO, providing guidance on PMO policies and processes, overseeing project management staff, and collaborating with other department leaders to develop projects and programs.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Collaborate with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects.

  • Plan project management, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and assign team members to various deliverables.

  • Analyze financial data, including project budgets, risks, and resource allocation.

  • Provide financial reports and budget outlines to Executives.

  • Oversee the development of the project portfolio and ensure that team members are carrying out their tasks efficiently while upholding the company's standards and furthering the IPG growth strategy.

  • Draft new and improve existing project management office policies and processes.

  • Continuously evaluate projects to ensure they are meeting company standards, adhering to budgets, and meeting deadlines.

  • Accurately document the project's creation, development, and execution as well as documenting the project's scope, budget, and justification.

  • Review financials for required projects, ensuring that proper, consistent completion of spreadsheet calculations and project basis/assumptions from plants. Review regularly with CFO and leadership.

  • Review all Group business case summaries as project gatekeeper, ensuring fields and information are completed correctly.

  • Work with project requestor/submitter to provide recommended/required information.

  • Schedule and lead project reviews on monthly (minimum) basis. Generate and distribute project listing for reviews.

  • Oversee project forecasting across IPG to ensure completion and compliance with expectations.

  • Set baseline schedules and budgets for selected projects and hand-off to project managers.

  • Maintain rapport and communication with Operations and Project Leadership members for each project.

  • Lead and coach direct reports on best practices related to project management techniques and value-creating activities (execution of capital projects).

  • Interface coordination between all engineering groups, equipment vendors and other third parties.

  • Work alongside plant operations management and personnel for construction phasing and resource support.

 

Experience / Knowledge Requirements

 

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Project Manager or Project Leader

  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, drive high performance, meet deadlines, and execute on deliverables

  • Ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously and balance a range of key internal and external stakeholders

  • Previous experience leading equipment installation and/or construction projects in an industrial environment

  • Use and understanding of Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project

  • Working knowledge and experience with project management software programs

  • Skilled in facility layout and design, regulatory requirements, process improvement and team problem solving methods

  • Building products experience desired

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in manufacturing environment. A detailed knowledge of applicable processes and associated equipment is essential

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

 

Education / Skill Set / Certification Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management with 2+ years of project management experience and/or 5+ years project engineering experience.

  • PMP Certification Required
