Position Overview

 

The Principal Enterprise Architect will provide senior technical leadership and strategic direction for all corporate IT initiatives reporting to the VP of Enterprise Architecture.  This key senior IT leadership role is tasked with developing long-term technology strategy aligned with corporate objectives while ensuring ongoing initiatives are designed in a way to deliver business value while moving towards our strategic end state.  Responsibilities include partnering with business leaders, application development, PMO, data services, business intelligence, and infrastructure & operations teams in designing and building business, application, data, and technical architecture best practices. This leader will be accountable for architecting complex and scalable architectures across multiple technology channels (e. g., SAS, web, mobile, MDM, IOT, enterprise systems, legacy systems, integration systems, etc.) optimized for security, performance, scalability, and reusability.

 

The candidate will develop platform strategies that align with the business and enterprise architecture framework while optimizing the total cost of ownership. He/she will be responsible for the communication and ongoing governance of architecture blueprints, roadmaps, principles, standards, design patterns, and reference architectures to promote consistent solutions and portfolio rationalization. The candidate will lead the development and support the maintenance of conceptual, logical, and physical data models across all transactional, master data, analytics platforms.  The candidate is someone with proven technology leadership with ability to get hands on when it comes to analysis, design, and execution while using influence to gain consensus on broad strategic objectives.

 

He/she will strategically design and implement next generation platforms to support the tremendous growth of CRH Americas Materials including modern ERP systems, BI platforms, IOT, machine learning, cloud computing, and more. The Enterprise Architect will help evaluate and select all IT components to support such platforms such as software, hardware, database management systems, and networking capabilities. The Enterprise Architect will work with IT  staff to insure all standards are followed in establishing and maintaining enterprise systems.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Developing and managing platform roadmaps and technology lifecycles, transformational initiatives, and solution design and oversight across a wide and diverse portfolio of applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership and influence skills across organizational levels and functions
  • Works closely with the IT Leadership team to drive technology strategy for overall IT architecture including network, cloud management, data services, application development, and infrastructure.
  • Working directly with applications teams to validate application design patterns
  • Presenting concepts and technical solution architectures to highest levels of the organization
  • In partnership with senior and executive leadership, establishes overall vision and creates a culture that treats data as an asset.
  • Develop enterprise models for business capabilities, enterprise applications, service oriented integrations, master data, and transactional applications.
  • Develop architecture KPIs to measure effectiveness of architecture standards and controls.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels with both business and technology leaders, with a strong understand of business data requirements and technology capabilities.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of strategic, tactical and operational business requirements and develop effective architectures and designs
  • Coordinate and work with other technical staff to develop application and database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Develop a technology governance model and implement by leading architecture reviews of technology initiatives
  • Provide strategic direction and oversee the integration of emerging Big Data platforms and tools for advanced analytics including machine learning/data science that drive business value.
  • Mentor and/or provide leadership to junior members of the IT team.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Computer related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 10+ years overall experience, 5+ years direct experience in enterprise architect role.
  • 10+ years related work experience in application development, application architecture, data modeling, systems design and development, solution delivery
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with ability to present at all levels of the organization
  • Enterprise application architecture with ERP platforms including SAP S4/HANA development and integration experience.
  • Experience leading architecture governance processes to support project teams in documenting and proposing architectures in compliance with reference architecture.
  • Depth of experience with SOA and ESB technologies and best practices.
  • Experience with developing standards and design patterns for cloud-based development including implementing cloud-based analytics platforms like Azure.
  • Experience with designing & architecting SQL databases like Oracle and SQL w/ hands on backend systems development & data warehouse platform design experience
  • Experience with designing & architecting NOSQL databases like Cosmos or MongoDB etc.

 

Work Requirements
