Position Overview

 

The Solution Architect is responsible for finding the best technical solutions available to solve specific business problems.  They shape the overall technical strategy for the software development team by providing a framework for software development.   They are also responsible for providing the specifications for how a solution is defined, managed, and delivered.  To do this successfully they will research, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure that a high-quality solution is developed and implemented.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

  • Work with other IT professionals in the company in order to determine needs for new software, platforms, and applications
  • Liaison with the Enterprise Architect team on application solutions to ensure enterprise architecture standards are being followed
  • Work with the Architectural Working Group to define architectural design processes within the organization
  • Architect and design solutions for new and existing applications that follow the overall strategy and use industry best practices
  • Collaborate with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications
  • Use tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and user interface of the desired product
  • Develops software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle
  • Develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility
  • Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards
  • Communicate successfully all concepts and guidelines to the development team
  • Oversee progress of the development team to ensure consistency with the initial design
  • Oversee and supervise the work of the development team
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers
  • Suggest and implement solutions for process improvement
  • Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, etc.
  • Approve final product before launch
  • Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Computer-related discipline, or equivalent experience required
  • 7+ years of experience IT and/or engineering experience
  • 7+ years of experience with software development lifecycle, deployment, and maintenance
  • 7+ years of experience with applications integration development lifecycle, deployment, and support
  • 3+ years of working with Cloud technologies
  • 3+ years of experience managing Team Foundation Services
  • 3+ years Windows IIS 7/8 
  • 3+ years of experience understanding of development best practices (C#, T-SQL).
  • 3+ years of experience web application deployment.
  • ESB Experience a Plus
  • PowerShell Experience Preferred
  • Azure Experience Preferred

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Ability to travel (overnight) as required based on business needs up to 10%
