Established manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager. The ideal candidate will have a background in a manufacturing setting with some supervisor or managerial level experience. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager/Plant Manager and will be responsible for overseeing the daily QC functions including process inspections, final product inspections, scheduling of support personnel, reporting on regular basis to management team with respect to processes improvements, repetitive quality defects, non-conforming products, and other quality concerns.  The position requires the employee to perform a wide variety of Quality Control functions.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Assume full responsibility for the day to day management of the quality control department.  This will include proper training and supervision of the inspection staff, which will consist of at least 2 inspectors
  • Oversee the production line in process inspection as well as the final acceptance inspection to ensure that all products being manufactured meet the physical and aesthetic requirements of the applicable standards prior to transfer of finished goods into inventory stock or shipment to customer
  • Visually examine all product rejected by the inspection staff and placed in the hold area.  He will review his recommendations for disposition of such material with the production manager and maintain a daily record of such disposition.  Any disputes arising from the QC Supervisors recommendation for disposition will be brought to the attention of the engineering manager for final resolution
  • Ensure that all laboratory test equipment including various hand measurement tools are available, functioning, and calibrated at the specified intervals and the inspection staff is properly trained in their use
  • Verify that the inspection staff is trained to prepare and maintain all inspection books, calibration, and inspection records that are required.  Copies of these records are correctly identified, filed and readily available for review by any follow up field service inspector upon request (UL, NSF, CSA, etc.)
  • Receive and document all complaints or claims relating to product quality and assure they are handled in accordance with the company procedure for complains and claims processing.  This may require you accompany the engineering manager on field service jobs or job-site visits from time to time, depending on the nature of the complaint
  • Assist the engineering manager on an as needed basis in the preparation of the monthly pending claims report, which must be prepared and distributed to the VP Sales, CFO, and CEO for review by the first week of each month.  A master copy will be kept in the pending claims file
  • Assist the engineering manager in securing additional product approvals/listings for both new and existing product lines.  This will consist of preparation and submittal of test samples to the appropriate test agency and follow up with same
  • Accompany and interface in a cooperative and professional manner, with all outside field service representatives during inspections at our facilities.  This will include assistance in selection of their test samples in a timely manner, making the necessary test equipment available (including various hand measuring tools), as well as preparation and submittal of pipe samples to their laboratory facilities
  • The Q.C. manager must have a thorough understanding of all product specifications, inspection frequency, policies and follow up test procedures of each third party inspection agency that National maintains product listings with.  This will include maintaining and staying current with all product revisions, policy changes, etc. associated with these agencies

 

Physical/Visual Activities Required/ Work Environment Conditions

 

  • Have proper sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles, i.e. forklifts etc
  • Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification as well as warning and operational indicators
  • Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching in all areas due to possible limited direct supervision and/or observation
  • Ability to verbally communicate either face-to-face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all job requirements
  • Hear and understand verbal communication whether it be face-to-face or via telephone
  • See and understand written communication
  • Ability to confirm by sight quality level of raw materials and parts received for use
  • Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and carry it up to 30 feet
  • Push and/or pull up to 50 pounds up to 30 feet without the aid of material handling equipment
  • Maneuvering through, under and round equipment with clearances of 30 inches
  • Ability to operate controls
  • Ability to feel objects, such as textures, size and shape, and to determine temperature by touching of skin, primarily by that of fingertips
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered), and use them in accordance with safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees, i.e., power saws, drills, hammers, presses, etc.
  • All unsafe operating conditions must be brought to the attention of the manager

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with minimum two years quality control experience (prior supervisor experience preferred)
  • OR Associates’ degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Production, Quality Systems or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred
