Job Summary

 

The Product Engineer is responsible for driving Value-Added/Value Engineering initiatives, facilitating all product quality cases, managing product approvals & certifications and leading strategic initiatives within the Technical Services department. The Product Engineer will be required to work cross departmentally to complete all tasks and ensure deadlines are met. This position will be located in our largest manufacturing facility in Converse, TX.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Manage product approvals and certifications process for new and existing products to include but not limited to ICC, CoLA, DOT, LEED, HPD, EPDs

  • Diagnose and investigate product quality and field issues complaints from customers by working closely with manufacturing and sales teams

  • Support manufacturing and supply chain teams with developing quality assurance documents and conducting first article approvals

  • Develop and lead Value-Added/Value Engineering initiative

    • Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain and product management to identify opportunities to reduce product costs through modifications to design, materials, manufacturing process, etc.

    • Develop evaluation criteria and prioritization process

    • Develop KPI metrics to measure effectiveness of the process

    • Lead re-design of existing products to support VA/VE process.

  • Support testing of existing products

  • Understand and apply Building Codes and ASTM standards to ensure product re-design meet safety, compliance and performance requirements.

  • Perform engineering change processes as necessary to support existing products.

  • Support Product Application Team’s strategic initiatives like development of design software, design templates, submittal documentations, manufacturing drawings, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • BS in Mechanical, Civil, or other engineering discipline

  • P.E. preferred but not required

  • 5+ years of manufacturing or product development experience in building materials or similar field

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards and drawings

  • Basic knowledge of structural engineering principles: statics, materials, etc.

  • In depth knowledge and practical experience applying lean manufacturing methodologies to support continuous improvement

  • Competency in Microsoft Office products and CAD software

  • Finite Element Analysis experience preferred but not required

  • Experience working cross-functionally 

  • Highly organized, self-starter, problem solver and proven project management skills

  • Ability to identify, define problems and provide solutions through clear and precise communication
