Job Summary

 

Performs basic R&D and quality control tasks in the US Mix R&D and Quality Control Lab with the goal of providing accurate material property measurements to support the business and quality initiatives of US Mix. Collaboratively performs new product development work requiring the analysis of material properties coupled with material costs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in new product development by comparing formula variations and making physical measurements in an iterative fashion to meet product specification targets.
  • Support Manufacturing Plant and Laboratory Manager in measurements, conclusions, and corrective actions for forensic investigations regarding products.
  • Perform routine laboratory measurements on raw materials, concrete, and mortar samples.
  • Create summary reports discussing results of tests, including the use of tables and graphs.
  • Report anomalies in data to Laboratory Manager and Technical Director as appropriate.
  • Organize sample collection of raw materials and finished goods from production and for R&D.  Maintain stock of raw materials and perform periodic organizational clean ups of sample stock areas.
  • Maintain the instruments required by the Concrete and Mortar Laboratories.  Report all instrument issues to Laboratory Manager.  Work with instrument vendors and IT to interface, calibrate, maintain, and repair instruments.
  • Order replacement laboratory and office supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and Technical Director.

 

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • High school diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree in a related field. Experience in concrete materials science and ASTM standards is a plus, but this role will provide training.
  • Strong communications skills and work ethic.
  • ACI Certification for concrete testing in hand or ability to earn.
  • Attention to detail required with respect to Personal Protective Equipment usage and safety.
  • Sufficient computer skills to enter data into spreadsheet databases, make spreadsheet calculations, create and store files, and write communicative emails.

 

Physical Environment

 

  • This position may require a standing position for an extensive amount of time
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

 

Compensation

 

  • Base compensation $25-30 per hour
