Position Overview

The right candidate will be a safety minded individual who will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the Dover Ready-Mix site. This role involves direct supervision of all drivers, dispatch activities, and batch plant operations. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for batching concrete and dispatching drivers regularly.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

Driver Supervisor:

  • Interpret and work effectively within Company guidelines and policies.

  • Directly supervise and provide leadership to all drivers, including support in annual performance appraisals, hiring, discipline, training, and scheduling mentor meetings.

  • Communicate regularly with Area Manager regarding driver efficiency to improve productivity.

  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and assist with audits as required.

  • Follow-up on delivery complaints, driver complaints and be observant of quality control problems and safety concerns. 

  • Observe drivers in the field insuring timely and efficient deliveries, excellent customer relations, and efficient and safe operation of our equipment.

  • Handle all property damage complaints associated with drivers; insure proper reporting of incidents and follow-up. Investigate and coordinate with Safety Manager all driver related property damage and industrial injury accidents.

  • Act as a safety ambassador by being a leader in safety and ensuring an exceptionally safe work environment.

 

Concrete Batch Plant Operator / Dispatcher:

  • Direct the general operations and perform the essential duties and functions of the Batch Plant Operator and Dispatcher.

  • Maintain batch plant operations to ensure timely delivery of concrete.

  • Verify specific concrete on incoming tickets and enter correct mix design into computer.

  • Monitor gauges, dials and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.

  • Coordinate batching and loading of all concrete leaving plant.  Check concretes slump to ensure proper specifications.

  • Communicate and receive directions from dispatch, drivers, operators and customers by radio/phone.

  • Receive and schedule concrete orders for timely and efficient delivery. Assist customers in determining proper product require; quote prices as needed.

  • Dispatch trucks based on load size, truck and driver capabilities and jobsite conditions.

  • Communicate regularly with internal and external customers regarding scheduling and job status.

  • Diagnose and repair batch plant equipment.  Coordinate equipment and personnel for larger repairs.

  • Service and grease batch plant parts, i.e. change belts, chip mixer, and maintain cleanliness of plant.

  • Carry and stock admixtures for batch plant

  • During cold weather, may poke material and stomp lumps

  • Direct general operations of loader operator and loader.

  • Regular and timely attendance.

  • Other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Prior experience working in the concrete and aggregate field.

  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance and attendance.

  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to perform basic mathematical functions.

  • Detailed-oriented and thorough in all duties with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work well in a high stress environment.

  • Proficient with PC Programs and Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Outlook)

  • Demonstrate professionalism, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors and internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrates a willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays.

  • Demonstrates the ability to lead, support, and develop a team, and facilitate a positive work environment.

  • Demonstrates the ability to resolve team and customer concerns.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and controlled substance testing.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDL preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of trucking or construction industry knowledge preferred.
