This is a skilled position that involves preparing computer-aided drafting (CAD) drawings, creating models for heavy equipment for earthwork and measuring and surveying on job sites.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand technical instructions
  • Work with Construction Drawings (Civil Plans and Structural Plans)
  • Use Survey Equipment (GPS and UTS)
  • Work on and Maintain Grading Systems on Earthwork Equipment (Dozers, Graders and Excavators)
  • Operate and inspect machines or equipment
  • Measure stock piles

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree or higher is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Degree or certification in related field is preferred
  • Standard driver’s license


Physical Demands:

  • GRIP – with at least 75 lbs. of force
  • CLIMBING – in, around, on equipment and up and down ladders
  • HEAVY LIFTING – of extremely awkward parts and equipment up to 70 lbs.
  • CARRYING – awkward parts and equipment up to 70 lbs. for 50 feet or more
  • AWKWARD LIFT – of up to 35 lbs. shoulder to away from body
  • FLEXIBILITY – awkward reaches
  • BALANCE – including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces and rough terrain
  • VISION – 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions
  • HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Position with be in an office environment and in the field.



To perform the job successfully; an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - understands units of measure, add, subtract, multiply and divide, in addition using common fractions and decimals. College Algebra or higher preferred.
  • REASONING ABILITY- Ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING- The ability to apply and use common sense when solving a problem, stay with it until the problem is solved.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS- Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel Work and Outlook. CAD and Earthwork Takeoff Software experience preferred.
