The Quality Assurance Specialist role requires the ability to establish, develop and cultivate relationships with internal and external customers while meeting concrete quality, project specifications and satisfying customer demands. Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager of Technical Services, the Quality Assurance Specialist will meet customer needs by maintaining a high level of product quality, troubleshooting customer complaints and providing quality support to Sales and Production teams.

 

Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, and skill requirements:

  • Interface with other field technicians, Drivers, Lab Personnel, Plant Operators, Supervisors, Managers to communicate quality objectives and results
  • Job site supervision and interaction with Customers
  • Coordinate and execute sampling and testing of concrete and other raw materials to ensure they meet plant and job site regulatory specifications
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of customer technical issues (involves preparation and submission of technical reports as needed)
  • Analysis of concrete quality and performance
  • Technical service training of internal and external customers
  • Champion and execute Technical Service initiatives and opportunities allowing continuous improvement
  • Prepare and submit project specification reviews and mix design submissions to satisfy customer requests
  • Work closely with Sales team to aid with concrete mix pricing evaluation and support
  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures as required to ensure compliance with applicable standards and safe field activities
  • Mentorship, guidance and direction of Technical Service Coordinators, Representatives and QC Students
  • Develop and assist with Concrete Mix Optimization initiatives
  • Prepare and execute Concrete Ontario Annual Plant Certifications
  • MTO and Specialty Projects preparation and execution
  • Demonstrate proficiency with key business software systems

 

Work Environment:

  • Plant/Field/Lab/Office environment
  • Travel to plants and job sites
  • Physical demands

 

Position Requirements (Experience, Technical Expertise and Core Competencies):

  • Safety oriented and sound knowledge of OH&S policies, procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of concrete and aggregates testing
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent problem solving abilities, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, flexible and able to adjust to changing needs, priorities and work times
  • Capability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust and noise is required
  • Customer-oriented
  • Certified Concrete Field Testing Technician
  • Must have valid G driver’s license

 

Educational/Experience Criteria:

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil or Construction Technology Program or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Certified with The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering and Applied Science Technicians and Technologists or working towards a Professional Engineer Certification with the PEO
  • Concrete Testing Experience with a CCIL certified laboratory
