Position Overview

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting designated geographic regions. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment / employment, comp and benefits administration, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Monitors the performance review program and assists managers through evaluation steps as needed.
  • Assists HR Manager with recruitment efforts for all nonexempt personnel, interns; conducts new-employee orientations; and writes and places advertisements.
  • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing for nonexempt employees.
  • Participates in organizational trainings, meetings and seminars.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed. 
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Regularly attends career fairs for recruiting and company branding.
  • Posts and updates new positions on company and career websites.
  • Works with hiring managers to schedule, conduct, and follow-up on interviews.
  • Facilitates onboarding program for all exempt and nonexempt new hires.
  • Collaborates with HR department and hiring managers to create and distribute job offer letters, new-hire documents, expense reports, drug testing, and background and reference checks.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with HR administration strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a construction environment preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in Company policies.
  • Strict adherence to Company and CRH policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc.
  • Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.
  • Ability to analyze issues independently.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, talk and hear.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

 

Work Environment

  • Standard office environment, with travel required to other company locations.
  • Tempo is fast-paced with deadlines.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be moderate.
