Position Overview


Reporting into the GM, CHT, the primary function of this position is to lead the HMA and Aggregate logistics department including dispatchers, customer service representatives, driver supervisors, internal dump, tanker, and lowboy drivers, administrative support personnel. This includes optimization of the fleet equipment reliability/productivity, implementation of process improvements, optimizing schedules through coordination of plants and quarries, enhancing the customer experience and reducing costs.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Promote and drive safety throughout the entire organization with focus on creating an incident and injury free workplace and a culture that reflects that.
  • Manage performance of employees with emphasis on safety, customer service, productivity and efficient delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with our internal and external stakeholders to achieve our ultimate goals to always have the right products, at the right time, in the right quantity and of the right quality in the right place.
  • Provide leadership for the development, planning, and execution of customer service and logistics strategies, including performance management.
  • Fosters a culture of personal and professional growth through coaching, supporting, and listening to team and others.

  • Accountable for overall management of logistics efficiency including P&L responsibility for Delivery Line of Business.
  • Establish hourly and zone rates for movement of hot mix asphalt, aggregates, and internal freight movements.
  • Monitor the financial performance of the internal and external haul fleet.
  • Responsible for actively participating in and supporting the overall P&L for construction, asphalt and aggregates.

  • Partner with external hauler fleet to support the business. This will include recruiting, retaining, managing and building relationships with external haulers.
  • Manage the supervision and recruitment for our internal fleet.
  • Provide quality transportation services for internal and external customer base.
  • Implementation and management of our Transportation Management System utilizing telematics and a Central Dispatch model.
  • Establish and manage performance KPI’s and baseline measurements to gauge efficiency
  • Ensure compliance to DOT regulations pertaining to fleet and drivers.
  • Partner with Equipment department to properly maintain internal fleet. plan for capital expenditures, asset management and develop predictive maintenance plan.
  • Provides oversight to all dispatching activities, looking after master data and maintaining collaborative partnerships with business partners and customers.
  • Responsible for demand planning to develop accurate forecasts that meet customer needs.
  • Manage schedules and delivery in collaboration with customer service, plants, quarries and sales teams.
  • Support back office and accounting efforts for department.
  • Promote innovation and a continuous improvement culture by supporting and driving efforts for all LOBs related to transportation and other operational efficiencies impacted by transportation.

  • Lead and champion all strategic initiatives related to transportation.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of the call volume overflow plan and cross-training of customer service representatives.
  • Adhere to and follow all company policies, safety rules and regulations of local, state, and government agencies including FMCSA/OSHA/MSHA.
  • Become a team member and help achieve the common goals of the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or Supply Chain Management, or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years supervisory and management experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of HMA and Aggregates. Knowledge of job costing and estimating techniques.  Experience with Libra, Apex and Telematics systems are preferred.

  • Must be self-confident; make critical decisions on a timely basis; think outside the box and be proactive vs. reactive.
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient use of PC with Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.


General Requirements 

  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations
  • Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary
  • Overnight travel may be required for out of town meetings/ conferences and various sites within our business (<10% overnight travel). Local travel to our various sites (=/<50%).
