Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work for approximately 10-12 weeks at Pennsy Supply, Inc. to integrate the education received from a college and/or university to the company’s objectives. The Intern will be exposed to a variety of departments and work environments during the internship. This will involve travel to and between various plants in Pennsy Supply’s Harrisburg, PA market region.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT and Pennsy Supply, Inc.
  • Conduct daily safety assignments (area inspections, pre-shifts, JSA’s, TRACK, etc)
  • Work with Operations Support and/or Operations staff to review and learn the following:
    • Capital project planning, budgeting, and management
    • Maintenance activities and process improvement
    • Mine overview and explanation of the mine planning process
    • May briefly train as a ground person, equipment operator and/or plant operator
    • May briefly assist on the plant maintenance crew
    • Understand components of preventative and predictive maintenance programs
    • ​Process overview, KPI's, production reports, dispatching component
    • Quality control issues, including understanding of sampling and testing procedures
  • To a lesser extent, work with the Customer Support and Operations departments to review the following:
    • Spend time with Construction Manager, Construction Superintendent and Sales Representative
    • Collections
    • Dispatch – customer service-related issues and work order process
    • Delivery of product – aggregate, asphalt and/or concrete
    • Financial reports related to the department
    • Understand how plant operations affect customers
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and timely attendance

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High school Diploma
  • 3rd Year (entering) Mechanical Engineering major with College and/or University
  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Word and Excel
  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check
  • Current PA driver’s license

 

General Requirements 

  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations
  • Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary
  • Travel may be required
