Position Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of RMC operations including production, maintenance and delivery. This includes safety, cost management, performance management, team development, strategy, employee well-being and morale. The role requires continuous collaboration with quality, sales, dispatch and other lines of business. 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee and lead managers within the RMC operations and delivery team.
  • Responsible for own personal safety as well as maintaining the highest standard of safety across all RMC activities. Be familiar with and follow CRH Life Savings Rules.
  • Embody the CRH and Pennsy Values of Safety First, continuously create value, do what we say and lead with integrity, operate locally but act as one company and build enduring relationships.
  • Drive operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company goals.
  • Cost responsibility for RMC and delivery operations. Strive to lower cost and increase productivity through efficiency and innovations.
  • Understand Quality Control to ensure a quality product is produced while optimizing mix cost.
  • Provide financial analysis of operations performance to drive operations optimization.
  • Making RMC a great place to work by improving employee morale and hiring quality people as needed to meet the demands of the business.
  • Responsible for the availability and working conditions of the plant equipment and trucks
  • Build and maintain customer, vendor and supplier relationships.
  • Generate plans and strategies to grow Pennsy’s leadership in the market area, including participation in the company 5-year strategic plan and capex process.
  • Provide regular updates to the GM on cost and performance targets and actions taken.
  • Assist GM with annual budget process including winter maintenance planning.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends if necessary
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of all Pennsy Company employees

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies and procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Willingness to develop subordinates technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching and feedback (written and verbal) rewards, and discipline when necessary.
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Experience in leading teams and overseeing or supporting production activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is preferred.
  • Proven skills and experience in evaluating processes, production and efficiency is preferred.
  • Experience of working with concrete, building materials or other manufacturing processes is desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and lead a team.

  • Advanced / very proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to analyze data and produce reports that identify trends and opportunities
  • Ability to learn new IT systems quickly and use these systems to the benefit of the business
