Job Summary

This position is responsible for driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads to shipping documents, maintaining record of duty status according to state and federal regulations, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Inspects truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip or tour of duty.
  • Checks shipping documents to determine the nature of load and verify for accuracy.
  • Drives truck to and from designated destinations of up to 11 hours with and maximum of 14 hours total as TXDOT rules allow.
  • Applies knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather.
  • Must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather and conditions. This includes going forward and backing up long-distance, around corners, and in and around very tight areas unless it is unsafe.
  • Package drivers must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate a Moffett; Operate controls for loading and unloading racks of glass at assigned destination.
  • Load and unload crates at the company premises (Cristacurva) or assigned destination.; Operate Forklift in and around the company premises (Cristacurva) or assigned duties.
  • Need to be able to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Reports all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment.
  • Reports highway safety hazards noted en route.
  • Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies, or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or delivery of cargo.
  • Maintains records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver’s record of duty status, mileage records, and other records required by law.
  • Conducts daily maintenance of all company vehicles to ensure that they are all running properly.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures, and complies with all federal state, and local regulations for the safe operations of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Operate controls for loading and unloading of products.
  • Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operation and freight movements.
  • Professional representation of the company and the trucking industry through responsible driving and appearance.
  • Will perform any other job or task as assigned.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Commercial Class B
  • Must have the ability to read and write English language
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Must have a mental ability to handle receipts; read maps, road signs, maintain record of duty status, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of Vehicle Safety and Control Systems
  • Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance
  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the US Dept. of Transportation.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a drug test.
  • Must satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable)
  • Must be able to climb ladders located on units and customer locations.
  • Follow with OSHA regulations
  • Specific vision abilities (distance, peripheral, close and depth perception)

 

Work Environment

  • Able to lift glass up to 25lbs.
  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, pull, push and lift all types of hoses, equipment and tools required to do the job weighing up to 25 lbs. or more.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment and can multi-task.
  • Ability to concentrate on driving in a long period of time.
  • Ability to work in flexible working hours.

 

Preferences

  • High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience Required

  • 2 –3 years’ experience as a Driver in Manufacturing and Production Environment
