Position Overview

 

The Transportation/Fleet Safety Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the safety and risk reduction of our fleet by promoting education and knowledge on federal and state rules, regulations and laws which apply to CMV operations to all levels of employees, training and educaton on the operation of all vehicles. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Research and stay current on the changing federal regulations and state laws and how these changes may affect operations to stay compliant
  • Works with others to coordinate, develop, implement, and train on compliance with motor carrier regulations, state and local regualations, and company policies reguading operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct and assists with accident investigations and documentation of the incidents
  • Assist mangers with proper FMCSA licensing, registration requirements, hazardous materials transportation requirements, and access to such information. 
  • Ability to travel to various company locations for site visits and training
  • Assist mangers with determining proper trucks for specific jobs and compliance with specific state weight, size regulations and assist with proper permitting for overweight and oversize loads.
  • Manage the employee driving and DOT file process and monitoring of HOS for all CMV drivers
  • Maintains outside professional contact with various federal, state and local agencies concerning rule interpretation and compliance and be an active participant in the CVSA organization.
  • Main contact person for state or federal auditors in transportation audits conducted by enforcement agencies.
  • Manage the companies Lytx Camera Program
  • Be resource for managers and employees to contact with DOT related questions
  • Overseeing the annual approval process for our hired haulers
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Qualifications  

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • College degree in related technical field preferred,
  • Previous law enforcement experience or experience in federal or state DOT Compliance Reviews preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required, CDL license preferred

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations 
  • Intermediate skills in Excel, Word, Outlook, and related computer software
  • Working knowledge of FMCSR as it relates to compliance items 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.  Physical agilities test may be required.  The employee will be  exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be  exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment can vary by location.
