Position Overview

Provide inspection, testing services, and documentation of materials for plant facilities or paving projects. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, facility managers, DOT personnel, State, County, and Municipal personnel.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Use accepted methods to inspect, sample, and test materials for the purpose of quality control.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Sample, test materials and/or test compaction of mixtures to remain in compliance with contract specifications and quality control.
  • Prepare and record accurate information; maintain databases; documentation of onsite observations and test results; and communicating results appropriately.
  • Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure our products meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate agency or customer.
  • Maintain all testing equipment, keeping track of all certification / calibration paperwork on testing equipment to ensure that these requirements are met. 
  • Follow quality control plans and guidelines assigned.
  • Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific duty.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Perform general cleaning of work areas.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must obtain and maintain DOT certifications required to test materials as required by state regulations within one (1) year of employment and maintain certifications as required.
  • One year experience in related field required.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have valid driver's license and meet the qualifications of the fleet safety program.
  • Must obtain IDOT Aggregates testing level 1&2 certifications.
  • Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.  
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must know and understand all DOT regulations, such as sampling frequency, density specifications, sampling methods, graduation requirements, quality requirements, test materials etc.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook and database software. Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, assisting co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving, and receiving feedback.
  • Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Must manage time and personal organization effectively.

 

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • May require standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to climb ladders and to work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
