PRIMARY FUNCTION:
We are seeking a qualified, safety minded, highly motivated individual to work as an intern who will gain an overall understanding of the major divisions of Hinkle Contracting Company, so that the intern can eventually be considered for a full-time position within Hinkle Contracting Company. The selected candidate will be involved with and learn about various aspects of Hinkle Contracting Company. The focus of this intern will be Quality Control but will have exposure to all areas of Hinkle operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Requirements
- Support the safety goals and processes of the company
- MSHA and OSHA training and regulations
- Operations – Asphalt, Aggregates
- Spend time at our aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mix plants to learn the fundamentals of production
- Understand compliance requirements for our operations to meet federal and state regulations including MSHA and OSHA etc.
- Quality Control/Quality Assurance – Asphalt, Aggregates,
- Gain an understanding of the QC/QA process and material testing procedures at Hinkle Contracting Company for aggregates and asphalt.
- Learn the material specification requirements our products are required to meet
- Understand how crew and scheduling efficiency is instrumental to achieve project goals
- Commercial – Asphalt, Aggregates,
- Managing customer issues
- Accounts Receivable
- Billing
- Build relationships with key stakeholders at Hinkle Contracting Company.
- Show a commitment to be visible and active in operations with your fellow employees
- Learn how to identify and resolve safety, personnel, and equipment/operational problems, in a timely and effective manner
- In additional to learning these aspects, the selected candidate may be required to perform general laboring duties. Travel may be required throughout the State depending on the location of our jobs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ideal candidate must be currently enrolled in a college degree program and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organization levels, including senior management;
- Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures;
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices;
- Excellent communication skills and professional personal presentation;
- Organizing; planning, and customer service orientation;
- Great attention to detail and stress tolerance; and
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft products preferred.

Walking up to ten miles per day, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and traveling over irregular terrain. Functions also usually involve frequent sitting and standing. Performance of some tasks or operation of some equipment may require motor coordination, finger dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination and color discrimination.
