Position Overview

The Construction Cost Assistant is responsible for managing the daily jobs cost process, revenue, and cost reconciliation to assure payment of all items, project financial forecasting, dealing with owner’s reps, engineers and managers to assure timely payments of all items and the processing and management of all change orders, certified payroll, extra work orders and other items to assure the maximum return on all projects. Their duties include performing specialized tasks such as collaborating with the Construction Manager and project managers/superintendents, scrubbing timecards, completing certified payroll reports, reporting, and meeting deadlines.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties & Functions)

  • Set up and review timecards for construction field employees.
  • Examine timecards submitted by construction field employees to verify hours, equipment, progress, etc. correspond with number of hours of work, equipment, progress etc.
  • Serve as a back-up approver of timecards.
  • Reconcile quantities with residential engineers for the company and subcontractors.
  • Verify tons, price, and phase on batch reports then send to the billing point of sales supervisor.
  • Create tack batch for posting and batch moves when tons need to be moved to alternate phase, to waste, another job, etc.
  • Collect and submit Certified Payroll Reports in compliance with contracts.
  • Oversees the quantity management consolidation and reporting process with Superintendents/Project Engineers and other personnel for progressing, estimating, monitoring and reporting quantity units and expected revenue and margins.
  • Responsible for the development of the cost and work breakdown structures that convert the estimating data into a work breakdown structure, cost and revenue control, forecasting, reporting, scheduling / resource planning systems, change management and basis of quantity management.
  • Performs field audits, confirming project progress, sequencing, quantity installation, as well as project variances.
  • Assists in the development of project-specific tools to forecast quantities, hours, costs, as well as track changes from conceptual estimates through the execution of the project.
  • Assist in the close out of jobs monthly, includes running numerous reports to verify no purchase orders or subcontractors are open, all monies paid, retainage, etc.
  • Manages and tracks all project documents, schedules for various engineering activities, contact agreements, invoicing, payments, etc.
  • Various other duties as assigned or required by Construction Manager.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education; and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction engineering, project management or project controls preferred.
