Position Overview

 

The Technical Services Cement Technician has the authority and is fully accountable for the successful execution of the responsibilities listed in this position description in accordance with CRH Canada policies and procedures and as limited by the Director of Technical Services and dotted line with the Technical Services Representative and Sustainable Fuels and Raw Materials Business Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  1. Manage and administer the Grant writing and submission process for the Mississauga Plant
  • Research, document and present to the operations team the available Federal and Provincial Grant Funding programs
    • Funding will be reviewed in the context of on-going Sustainability, Innovation and Capital Plant Projects to support the Ash Grove emission reduction targets.
  • Lead the drafting and submission of grant applications for applicable projects and interact with assigned members of the Commercial, Logistics and Manufacturing team as appropriate.
  • Create a dashboard for communicating updates and changes to the available grant funding programs.
  • Support the Director of Tech Services to provide comments to applicable agencies for the on-going development of grant programs by various Government entities.
  • When not working on grant program assigned tasks, provide assistance to Technical Services, Production or Optimization to analyze operations of the Plant and make recommendations for process improvement including Cost/Benefit Analysis
  • Provide assistance in the review of the on-going development of the 5-year strategic Capex plan development.  Work with assigned members of the team to align applicable projects with possible funding programs. 
  • Assistance to the Technical Service team for the execution of on-going projects and customer support for testing programs.
  • Assistance to production to prepare computer reports on the process of operating efficiencies and failure investigation tests
  • Assistance to Optimisation Department to perform tests on operating plant systems to determine the efficiencies of the equipment and audit
  • Assistance to management in maintaining the Plant within safety, environmental and quality performance regulations

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

  • University Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering

.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, MS Office, TIS
  • Ability to sporadically work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise

Physical Requirements

 

Job has a lot of variety and is not routine. Cement techs will at times be required to work outside, at heights, warm temperatures, and at times around and over water, in dusty environments and confined spaces. Position will be predominantly day shift, but project requirements may dictate working outside of normal day time hours for periods of time.

Ideal candidates would have a strong engineering background with a desire to learn all areas of the cement business, ability to work in a team-based environment and excellent mechanical knowledge, and experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment.

 

Work Environment

  • This position is based in the office and at varying plant locations.
