Job Summary


The Management Development Program starts our recruits on a journey that will yield a rewarding career in the extremely diverse culture of Oldcastle APG. While onboarding to the Company and preparing for a long-term career in Senior Operations Leadership, the MDP will assist and lead specific operational initiatives to accelerate progress against the margin and profit improvement.


The MDP program can vary in length but generally ranges from 6 to 24 months.  Once onboarding & performance warrants advancement, it would be the Company’s goal to place the MDP into a senior operational leadership role.


This position will be located in Chicago, IL.  This role is used as an opportunity learn our business, while adding value on the journey to running a full operational unit after a year or two.  Must be willing to relocate for this role.   


Job Detail


  • The MDP will spend time rotating through various departments and locations; coupled with training around operations functions to include gaining knowledge of production activities, manufacturing processes, safety and quality programs, business development, customer service and much more.  
  • Act as a thought partner for the Regional Operational Leadership, and peer functions, to provide input and direction on key strategic decisions.
  • Develop and lead key operational initiatives that drive long-term margin improvement and profitability growth for the Companies and Region.
  • Spearhead the implementation of new process improvement initiatives and processes.
  • Partner with Senior Management, Company President, and Oldcastle APG staff to accelerate progress on operational initiatives.
  • May create alignment throughout the company that supports synergy between business and national goals.
  • May assist with the execution of the acquisition process including target identification, business assessment, valuation, board proposal preparation, contract negotiation, integration planning and post-closing issue resolution.
  • Provide leadership for people development, succession planning and recruitment of key talent.




  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Construction, Engineering or equivalent work or Military experience
  • MBA degree preferred; additional equivalent work experience considered
  • 8+ years of experience in any combination of manufacturing, consulting or business development with a specific focus on building materials/industrial manufacturing.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills with particular strengths in the areas of financial modeling, manufacturing, sales & operations as well as manage complex projects from concept through completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong business and financial acumen. 
  • Experience with full budgetary and P&L responsibly required.
  • Experience as a Manager of Managers (MoM) strongly preferred. Minimum 5 years personnel leadership experience required
  • Strong technical savvy for data analysis and office systems utilization
  • Smart, curious, hard-working, self-directed and aligned toward action with strong Project Management skills
