Position Overview
Repairs and maintains construction equipment and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, , bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other equipment by performing the following duties in a Radiological Contaminated Area.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Troubleshoots problems, making economical and durable repairs.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
- Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis.
- Services vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
- Orders parts and supplies. Maintains purchase orders and invoices. Operates computer for job functions.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Welds broken parts and structural members.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 5 years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, including mechanical maintenance experience working with a variety of equipment, especially heavy duty construction equipment such as (Komatsu and CAT) dozers, excavators, motor graders, water trucks, light duty support vehicles, and other small engine equipment.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
- Ability to qualify as a DOE Rad Worker II and complete qualification as a 40 Hr OSHA HAZWOPER Worker.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment HAZWOPER physical.

GRIP - with at least 75 lbs. of force

HEAVY LIFTING - of extremely awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist

FLEXIBILITY- awkward reaches
BALANCE – including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
VISION- 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions
HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers
The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
Work Environment

The work environment is in a radiological contaminated area. Must have the ability to wear and work in different types of personal protective equipment (half-face, full-face respirators, tyvek, gloves, etc). Most of the work is performed in the field, so one must be able to follow the Radiological program the site mandates. This position is a Monday through Thursday 6:30 am to 5:00 pm 10 hour shifts with little or no overtime.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
