POSITION OVERVIEW
Tilcon Connecticut Inc. is seeking a second-shift quarry superintendent to oversee production and maintenance operations across multiple quarry sites, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation and maintenance of quarry equipment. The superintendent is responsible for budgeting, inventory control, capital planning, and regulatory compliance, working closely with agencies such as MSHA and OSHA. The role requires leadership, technical knowledge of quarrying processes, problem solving skills, and collaboration with first shift supervisors and thirds shift maintenance foreman.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates team; set performance expectations, provide training, and evaluate performance.
- Directs, supervises and oversees production; coordinating daily activities to meet production goals, manage material flow, and ensure the quality of material meets specifications.
- Coordinate maintenance planning; oversee the use of machinery and equipment, coordinate daily inspections, and ensure preventive maintenance is performed to minimize downtime.
- Directs, schedules, and oversees external contractors (electricians, plumbers, excavators, roofers, painters, landscapers, etc.)
- Ensure safety compliance; enforce all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Conduct daily safety inspections and investigations as needed.
- Develops and monitors department budget; orders equipment and supplies and monitors inventory; makes requests for capital outlay expenditures as needed.
- Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for plant, buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems
- Prepares specifications for physical plant projects; estimates costs of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversees site and building projects performed by outside contractors
- Ensures the proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in compliance with regulations and guidelines; works directly with outside agencies such as MSHA, OSHA, MIOSHA, and local and state health departments as required
- Manage logistics; coordinate with other departments, vendors, and external carriers to ensure efficient operations, including the loading/unloading of materials and timely delivery.
- Assist in managing and planning large maintenance projects across various aggregates locations.
- Contributes to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them
- Wear proper safety equipment while at plant sites
- Ensure all subcontractors adhere to CRH, MSHA and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Works with company Safety professionals and assures that assigned contractors for projects conform to required health and safety procedures and practices, with a focus on risk assessment.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) or equivalent experience in quarry production.
- Experience in quarries and maintenance management, strategic planning and execution.
- Experience creating, working within and/or administering an assigned budget.
- High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
- Strong work ethic and high standards for safety in the workplace.
- Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and facilitate change
Requirements
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and present data in consumable way
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Project management skills.
- Knowledge of advanced computer skills especially in Excel and PowerPoint, but also including Microsoft Office, Project, AutoCAD, and structural analysis software.
- Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and ability to present themselves professionally.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary oral/written communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of functional areas within the company.

- Moderate travel required; must be willing to work in or travel to other locations as needed.
- Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.

- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA, MSHA, and state agencies. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Hardhat, safety glasses, face shield, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, respirator, air monitor, reflective safety vest, and hearing protection.
