Position Overview

Provides technical support to corporate and cement plant personnel regarding all aspects of the production process and the burning of hazardous and non-hazardous alternate fuels. Participates and assists in organizing process performance trials, new technology trials, waste fuel test burns. Takes an active role in the Ash Grove Energy Management program. Work requires coordination with outside consultants and regulators, as well as plant personnel. Uses independent judgment in performing daily responsibilities. Exposed to confidential information requiring appropriate discretion. Works from general supervision with specified standard practices and policies. Refers to supervisor only when in doubt as to the proper procedure for a specified action.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Analyzes plant production processes, make recommendations and champion changes needed to optimize operating conditions.
  • Collects, collates and organizes operating data from cement plants. Arranges on site audits and uses operating data to evaluate process efficiency. Keeps proper individuals apprised of deficiencies and makes recommendations in order that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Supports Environmental Department in preparing answers to environmental inquiries.
  • Participate as required in Plant upgrade/modernization and other projects as needed
  • Organize and coordinate activities related to the Ash Grove Energy Management Programs. Support all energy conservation and reduction programs.
  • Provides technical support on plant process performance to corporate office and plant personnel, as required.
  • Collaborates and coordinates activities with outside consultants involved in fuel test burns, process evaluations and other aspects of the production process.
  • Participates in preparation, review and publication of the Annual Progress and Performance Report and other technical reports as required.
  • Supports the CRH operational Task Forces, participates in meetings as needed, facilitates action plans

  • Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents (Preferred)
  • Understanding of basic concepts of mass balance and heat balance. Knowledge of pyroprocessing, comminution, control systems and computer operations.
  • General working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations required, as well as safety policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of cement production processes or related industrial processes, including the burning of waste-derived fuel and the associated regulations.
  • Ability to use a personal computer to make calculations, analyze data, and generate reports.




  • 5 or more years of experience in plant operations




  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, chemistry, or closely related area of concentration
