Position Overview

Oversee and contribute to relevant capital projects within the company, using independent judgment in performing daily responsibilities. Works as a supervisor with specified standard practices and policies. Refers to group engineering as a team member of the specific project, and applies procedures typical as may be needed within the specific scope of work (SOW).

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Follow pre-established project's budget, schedule, milestones, and work quality. Is present on-site and performs field supervision at the location for extended periods of time.
  • Responsible for project site safety and environmental compliance. Works with assigned HSE professionals and assures that assigned contractors for projects conform to required health and safety procedures and practices, with focus on risk assessment.
  • Work closely with the project team to develop and maintain an overall project schedule. Show critical path items and anticipate problematic issues. Responsible to foresee typical issues that historically challenge schedules, construction, and impact project costs. Identify these issues and work with the project team to develop solutions to overcome potential problem areas.
  • Interact with contractors and project management regarding regular project risk evaluation and monitoring.
  • Verify compliance with the contracted and allocated resources by the contractors.
  • Control deliverables and receiving with support of the responsible plant management.
  • Keep PCO and CO (change order) records which become part of the particular scope of the involved contractor.
  • Keep construction records as defined in the individual contracts with vendors and contractors.
  • Cooperate and provide input to and with the assigned project scheduler, based on the information and input by the involved contractors. When applicable, oversee and track the integrated overall Master Schedule, in MS Project and Oracle P6.
  • Participate in regular site meetings and follow up on compliance by the contractors with the detailed project schedule (or Master Schedule) and work plan.
  • Assess project progress and productivity/performance to identify areas for improvement and continuity of construction progress; have contractors initiate adjustments as needed.
  • Receive and review relevant project and costs reports in order to initiate, if required, corrective action with the assigned contractor to meet budget and schedule
  • Report regularly on project progress, based on information exchange with the project team and the assigned contractors, including input for the control of project strategy, adjustments, and progress by the Project Steering Committee.
  • Support management of contracts with vendors, suppliers, and contractors, and track schedule dates of expected deliverables to sustain continuity of the construction progress.
  • Utilize demonstrated best industry practices, techniques, and standards throughout the project execution
  • With guidance of the supervisor, get involved with:

                    - Building code requirements and particular site and permit conditions.

                    - Inspection of construction, testing, and other activities to secure quality and identify deficiencies for rectification.

                    - Contract requirements and guarantees.

                    - Development of standard specifications for construction projects and “standard” contract documents to suit the particular size of the project.

                    - Evaluation and reviews of third-party engineering, conceptual designs, quotations, and drawings for accuracy, communicating eventual deficiencies for resolution in the best interest of the company.

                    - Negotiations of commercial, construction, and/or technical disputes.

                    - Participation in relevant professional associations such as IEEE, PCA, and ACI.

                    - Participation in the development and implementation of training for standard software packages for

                                  ~project management;

                                  ~document management, as applicable.


                                  ~job estimating;

                                  ~integrity of foundations and buildings;

                                  ~integrity of equipment.


Other Requirements



     Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills

     Effective negotiation skills

     Demonstrated analytical skills to apply recognized methods to solve a variety of engineering problems.

     Ability to use AutoCAD for construction users

     Microsoft Office products, plus other relevant software packages.





     5 or more years of experience in managing projects in heavy construction and/or process industry.




     Bachelor's Degree – Required; Preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Mining Engineering)
