Summary:

 

Oversee a large strategic project or a portfolio of strategic projects within the company. Refers to Capex Team organization as a team member of the portfolio, and applies and develops procedures as needed within the specific scope of work (SOW).


What you’ll be contributing:

 

  • Promote and follow all aspects of safety guidelines (CRH safety 16 live Savings Rules) and participate in meetings as required.  
  • Responsible for project site safety and environmental compliance. Works with assigned home office /site office HSE professionals and assures that assigned contractors for projects conform to required health and safety procedures and practices, with a focus on risk assessment.
  • Provides overall strategic governance for projects by establishing processes and tools used for project delivery, establishes methodologies to set quality targets to asses project results and maintains a project risk matrix
  • Oversees the Project(s) through the Concept, Feasibility, and Execution stages of the project lifecycle and is responsible for maintaining updated the company project life cycle tool. Collaborates with Engineering, Procurement, and Contracts teams within the Capex organization.
  • Work closely with the CAPEX project team to manage an overall project schedule and the project progress utilizing the S-curve methods. Show critical path items and anticipate problematic issues. 
  • Responsible for foreseeing typical issues surrounding schedules, construction, and impact project costs and proposing improvements and cost savings for current and future projects.
  • Manage multiple stakeholders, internal and external, identifying, prioritizing, and engaging with them throughout the project development process
  • Interact with contractors and the Plant operation project management regarding regular project risk evaluation and monitoring. Verify compliance with the contracted and allocated resources by the contractors.
  • Control deliverables and receiving with the support of the responsible Project CAPEX management.
  • Participate in regular meetings and follow up on compliance by the contractors with the detailed project schedule and work plan.
  • Assess project progress and productivity/performance to identify areas for improvement and continuity of construction progress; have contractors initiate adjustments as needed.
  • In charge of developing the monthly project progress report, and leading the presentation to the Project Capex team, the Executive/Steering Committee, and the main external stakeholder 
  • Directs the activities of the project support staff and ensures that project decisions are in line with the overall strategy
  • Utilize demonstrated best industry practices, techniques, and standards throughout the project execution.
  • Performs other job duties as designated by management.  

 

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, mining, or related discipline. Professional Engineer (PE) (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience managing projects in heavy construction and/or process industry.
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Deep knowledge of the managed functions and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function 
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects.  
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
