Position Overview
The Dolomite Group is hiring a Senior Accountant that will report to the Assistant Controller and manage one staff accountant. This position will be responsible for various accounting tasks, including but not limited to inventory management, performing bank account and subledger reconciliations, and other tasks as needed. Candidates should possess strong time management, analytical, and communication skills, as well as an ability to manage ambiguity and deadlines effectively without sacrificing quality of work.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Responsible for accurate inventory reporting for all Lines of Business (aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix).
- SOX Compliance Coordinator for the Company.
- Collaborate with Construction on project status and revenue recognition.
- Assist in the month-end close process, including inventory adjustments, subledger maintenance, construction accounting tasks, accrual entries, and other tasks as required.
- Perform monthly balance sheet, subledger, and bank account reconciliations.
- Prepare NYS and PA Sales and Use tax returns.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes throughout the year.
- Work closely with the Finance and Operations to analyze and explain monthly operating results and variance analysis.
- Ad hoc projects and assignments as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
- Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Dolomite Company employees.
- Strict adherence to Dolomite’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Adherence to accounting manual and SOX controls.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- Associates degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
- Public accounting or audit background preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience.
Work Requirements
- Individual must possess a working knowledge and understanding of accounting concepts, including P&L’s and relevant balance sheet accounts. Must demonstrate strong numerical skills and the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions. Attention to detail and presentation of the work product to a high standard is required.
- Individual must possess a questioning mind and the ability to think independently. Ability to challenge situations in a constructive manner and present reasonable alternatives. Must possess superior problem-solving skills: ability to identify and investigate potential problems with respect to accounting and internal control issues.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Individual must possess strong computer skills and be proficient with Windows, Excel and Word.
- Ability to work under pressure and with time constraints
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting
