Job Summary


Administers sales activities within the assigned territory. Sells and promotes all Ash Grove products to current and potential customers. Provides quality customer service. Works under general supervision with specified policies, procedures and performance goals. Refers unusual problems to supervisor for guidance.


Essential Functions


  • Establish and maintain contact with ready mix and concrete products manufacturers, dealers and other contractors in assigned territory. Visit customer and contractor job sites on a regular basis. 
  • Sell Ash Grove products in a cost-effective manner by giving promotional presentations and participating in promotional meetings and seminars. Promote the use of Portland cement and SCM’s
  • Call on assigned contractors before and after lettings to obtain information on job interest, contracts and product price information. Track and record bids utilizing Bid History and SFDC.
  • Attend assigned bid lettings and participates in the strategic planning, pricing and bidding of special projects and construction work in assigned territory. Keep the bid calendar up to date with projects in your territory.
  • Provide quality customer service. Assist Technical Service Manager and Research Lab in resolving customer complaints in a timely manner. Our value added approach requires sales professionalism that includes technical training and knowledge of concrete including ACI Field 1 certification by all of our salesmen.
  • Keep Credit Department advised of any existing or potential credit problems and supplies them with financial information on current and prospective accounts.
  • Organize and execute plant tours for customers and participate if at all possible.
  • Maintain awareness of current industry trends and practices by attending professional association meetings and educational workshops.
  • Quote prices to customers and inform management of any deviation prices. Inform customers of price changes.
  • Make promotional calls on DOT’s, City/County Engineers and Public Works, Consultants, Geo-techs in your territory. Maintain an up to date contact list. At least one prescheduled visit to either private consulting/design firm, local, county or state agencies per week.
  • Maintain a relationship with the industry companies in your territory; i.e. trucking, admixture, fly ash companies, and concrete testing labs.
  • Appraises and informs management of opportunities and competitive conditions in assigned territory. 
  • Collaborates with other employees of the company to coordinate and improve marketing, advertising, promotion, pricing, service, credit and delivery. 
  • Participates in establishing and reaching sales forecast goals and update the working forecast on a monthly basis for both dealer and direct work.
  • Participate in the SPI meetings. Communicate customer quality and service needs with plant and terminal management.
  • Obtain competitive cement samples as requested.
  • Prepares written and/or digital reports and correspondence regarding sales activities as requested.
  • Utilize salesforce.com to log weekly sales calls and keep current customer information.
  • Participate in State and Regional Concrete Associations and provide leadership in those organizations to benefit Ash Grove.
  • Promote Ash Grove to the community including judicious use of the Sunderland Foundation resources.
  • Maximize sales budget to maintain long-term relationships with current customers and to develop relationships with potential customers.
  • Establish and maintain contact with diverse cement and limestone customer base; ready mix dealers, concrete products manufacturers, construction contractors, roofing and limestone products manufacturers, and limestone application contractors. Visit customer operations and contractor job sites on a regular basis.
  • Visit and communicate with the cement distribution terminal and limestone plant on a regular basis.




  • H.S. Diploma / GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

  • Knowledge of sales policies, procedures and techniques.
