Position Overview


Oldcastle APG is searching for an experienced and results-oriented National Purchasing Manager to lead and drive strategic sourcing in our industry-leading Lawn & Garden business. Reporting directly to the business President in this critical role you will partner with, and guide, stakeholders in leading sourcing strategies that address cost, quality, and service expectations. As the leader of a key function in our business, you will utilize creative approaches to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) while employing versatile sourcing processes resulting in strong and stable supplier relationships. This is a fast-paced, impactful role within our growing organization and those that are highly motivated and driven to results will succeed and advance.




  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply risk, performance, and cost escalation
  • Act as source of information for cost and market dynamics to support annual budgeting and long-term planning
  • Develop cost reduction targets based on spend data and develop action plans to achieve them
  • Collaborate with the central procurement team to negotiate pricing/terms with suppliers and execute contracts on behalf of APG as needed
  • Support local CAPEX projects by ensuring process compliance and providing training
  • Assist plants in troubleshooting day to day purchasing related issues
  • Work with plant operations and within the ERP to effectively purchase and arrange delivery of specific direct materials
  • Work with plant operations to clarify specifications, establish source alternatives, increase standardization and otherwise increase value related to purchases
  • Ensure that purchasing decisions and strategies are aligned with the group’s strategic supply chain objectives
  • Coordinate the process of obtaining quotes and/or requests for proposals from potential vendors, as needed
  • Monitor/research order history of similar products purchased to evaluate/track differences in costs, delivery, quality, and performance
  • Be familiar with the supply chain (manufacturing, distribution, delivery, use, service, and disposal) related to the products and services being purchased
  • Support efforts to identify and evaluate new/alternative suppliers which meet the business requirements
  • Assist plant operations and the supply chain group to perform tests and demonstrations of products to evaluate value, compare results and/or identify alternatives, and to ensure that supplier commitments are met




  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, management, finance, engineering, or related fields
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in operations, supply chain, procurement, or finance
  • 2+ years negotiating and implementing purchasing agreements; 2+ years experience in managing supplier relationships and performance management process
  • Experience with database software and ERP system
  • Availability for travel up to 60%
