Summary

 

This is a skilled position requiring employee to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in construction of surfaces on highways, streets, parking lots, aircraft landing strips, driveways, etc.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Must have 3 plus years of experience performing grade/base work in the capacity of a Foreperson.
  • Direct crew members to perform grade/base related tasks in the process of completing construction projects.
  • Must possess a solid understanding of all aspects of grade/base work including the ability to read project plans and set grade.
  • Must be able to operate related equipment as needed.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Must be capable of working from plans of projects to establish lines and grades for construction purposes.
  • May perform other duties such as shovel work and maintenance of traffic
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a DOT physical
  • Will ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Supervise and coordinate crew activities as well as train new crew members as needed.
  • Maintain time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Maintain company policy.

Education and/or Experience

 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and 3 plus years of related survey and layout experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to keep time and material records.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the company radio system.
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills and attributes.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
