Position Overview

Coordinates and oversees production operations involved in the manufacturing process.  Uses independent judgment in performing responsibilities. Works under general supervision on assigned objectives.  Refers to supervisor for guidance on unusual problems or circumstances. Exercises direct or indirect supervision over hourly production employees.  May also supervise directly and indirectly personnel working on the off shifts.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Participates and/or conducts safety meetings and training sessions, and ensures they are held on a regular basis 
  • Conducts safety inspections per safety guidelines to ensure compliance with safety regulations   
  • Orders safety equipment needed for production department employees.    
  • Follows plans and schedules of mill and kiln operations in coordination with maintenance, quality control, shipping and production personnel. 
  • Establishes, assigns and communicates job responsibilities and schedules for the shift personnel directly involved in the production process   
  • Supervises and evaluates job performance   
  • Monitors and maintains records of attendance, absenteeism, vacations and floating holidays for employees within supervisory responsibilities    
  • Closely monitors kiln burning operations and raw mill and finish mill grinding operations    
  • Reviews production data and prepares reports on same as requested by management   
  • Assists production personnel and other plant personnel as needed to resolve problems and ensure satisfactory production operations      
  • Supervises record keeping and monitoring of BIF operating parameters as generated from the plant control room (cement plants only)   
  • Serves as Alternate Emergency Coordinator for the Emergency Response Team (cement plants only)  
  • Attends RCRA training for waste-derived fuel activities (cement plants only) 
  • Orders tools and supplies needed for use in the manufacturing process   
  • Requests and supervises repairs and preventive maintenance performed on the mills, kilns and other machinery used in production operations   
  • Provides information on an ongoing basis to the Production Superintendent regarding the status of current operations and manpower    
  • Performs other job related duties as needed to meet production schedules and quality standards

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Work requires strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas, and exposure to extreme temperatures and noises.
  • Must be capable of using and maintaining databases used to store MSHA citation records as well as industrial hygiene data, injury and incident investigation data, and behavioral safety observations.
  • Must promote the use of The Health Bridge (nurse case management firm) and the company’s early return-to-work program, including the use of Bridge Assignments.
  • Must maintain personal proficiency level by attending appropriate professional development courses.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Base salary starting at $90,000+ depending on experience. 

 

Experience

 

  • 3 years of experience production with emphasis on process control in a similar industry.

 

Education

 

  • Associate's Degree, Two years of college, technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
