Job Summary
The Research and Learning Center Assistant for soil and plant growth provides essential support for research projects/operations through fieldwork, lab analysis, data management, collecting and preparing soil and plant samples, assisting with the design and execution of experiments and entering and analyzing data. Operation of laboratory equipment, collaboration, ensuring compliance with all safety and company protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing field, lab and greenhouse experiments.
- Collect, prepare and process soil, water, air and plant samples for analysis.
- Collect and record research activities, enter data, and help analyze, interpret research findings and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare samples, materials, and equipment for research projects.
- Maintain research plots, greenhouse facilities, and related equipment and supplies.
- Assist with setting up experiments and research activities.
- Operate various analytical instruments, perform quality assurance/control and prepare solutions and laboratory equipment.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies; order materials as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and company policies, protocols and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of research and laboratory spaces.
- Assist in preparing reports and other documentation.
- Irrigation of plant material.
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; or at least one month of related experience specific to job requirements; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field such as soil science, plant science or biology.
- Previous experience in research, preferably with field and lab work, is beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and data management software.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear.
- The employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 65 lbs. from the ground level. The need to lift over 65 lbs. may arise from time to time – should this be the case; employees should engage in team lifting and/or use the provided equipment to safely lift.
- The employee must have the capability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and your whole body – bending, crouching, climbing - using steps and ladders, pushing pulling, stooping and reaching.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to use small hand tools and basic laboratory equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
