The prime objective of the Maintenance Planner is to effectively and precisely plan all jobs before they are executed to assure that all plant equipment is maintained in the most reliable and cost effective manner possible. Assists in the development, planning and coordinating of a preventative maintenance program.  Assists in the planning and coordination of major equipment repairs.


Essential Duties


  • Assist Maintenance Manager in initiating preventive maintenance program and efficiently coordinating maintenance activities. Hands-on field measurements are included in this duty.
  • Plan all mechanical work orders on a weekly, monthly and turnaround timeline by assigning the required parts, tools, procedures, drawings, internal and outside resources to the work.
  • Develop daily, mid, and long-term maintenance plans for plant equipment.
  • Administer SAP system so that the system is utilized to its full potential. Write a detailed scope of work for all major work, including shutdown activities.
  • Assist plant and process engineers in developing an optimization program for the plant equipment. 
  • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the mechanical maintenance department through sound planning practices.
  • Track all statistics related to the planning function and be aware of the other key Maintenance Department activities (KPI) i.e.: repeat work, P.M. compliance, machinery failure, etc...
  • Work closely with stockroom and purchasing personnel to ensure that inventory levels are maintained to a minimum without compromising plant reliability or the effective completion of mechanical tasks. Ensures cost effective use of contractors, spares, and materials. Monitors stores inventory (min/max levels).
  • Closely work with the millwrights to give and receive feedback on job plans and tools for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that any changes to the plant's equipment or design are reviewed with the Environmental Manager and other departments to ensure that any relevant regulatory requirements are identified and met.
  • Assist in the development of equipment inspection procedures by operations and maintenance department to insure that proper actions are taken to maintain plant equipment and to keep the equipment in good working condition.
  • Monitor daily field progress against daily work plans. 
  • Monitors and tracks maintenance costs and assists Maintenance Manager with monthly and yearly budget. Projects costs for all major projects and shutdowns.
  • Aim to achieve 98% reliability (based on plant yearly targets) on all major pieces of equipment.
  • Resources maintenance supervisors with manuals and drawings as needed.
  • Other duties as required by Maintenance Manager.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Cement Manufacturing -- Knowledge of raw materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining, production, shipping and packaging of cement.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment used, machines and tools, including their uses, repair of, and maintenance.
  • Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of the technology used and manufacturing of cement. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of cement.
  • Environmental – Knowledge of proper allocation of waste material.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions


  • Ability to work safely in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Ability to perform tasks that include frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing equipment, and working within confined spaces to access and inspect equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
