Position Summary

 

Oversees and maintains the storeroom with an adequate amount of supplies and materials needed for use in the production process.  Performs inventory control activities regarding these materials.   Uses independent judgment in performing job.  Works from general policies and objectives.  Refers to Administrative Manager when clarification or interpretation of organizational policy is needed.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Utilizes computer system to perform the following duties:
    • Enters information on new stock items as needed.
    • Enters items received, verifying item description and/or account number, quantity, price, date and part numbers.
    • Enters adjustments and returns to stock as needed.
    • Process daily issues from Stores inventory.
    • Maintain current computer records:
      • (a) Cross reference item records to Equipment data files.
      • (b) Update vendor information, ie.. costs and OEM's. 
  • Monitors supply of storeroom items and prepares requisitions for replenishing the supplies, as needed.
  • Receives and distributes incoming shipments of materials and supplies to various departments. 
  • Reviews, verifies and approves receiving reports and files accordingly. 
  • Maintains an understanding of parts and supplies required for plant production and maintenance needs. 
  • Confers with department managers regarding the importance and/or priority of maintaining specified levels of supplies.
  • Contacts vendors to reconcile overages/shortages in shipments.
  • Coordinates with vendors to maintain both electrical and mechanical shop stock.
  • Conducts physical inventory (includes off-site inventory), as needed. 
  • Participates and/or conducts safety meetings and inspects storeroom for safety regulation compliance.
  • Maintains all warehouse, ie.. housekeeping, storage locations, dead stock termination. 
  • Performs receiving and shipping functions of all incoming and out going freight.
  • Together with purchasing agent, maintains automated stock re-order system to ensure  adequate stocking levels.
  • Provides interface between A/P and Stores to clear any discrepancies. 
  • Prepares Return Material Authorization shipments to vendor repair facilities.
  • Distributes maintenance literature and other pertinent information to plant personnel using the equipment or supplies purchased.
  • Assists other plant personnel by preparing storeroom requisitions and helping to find parts and other supplies. 
  • Provides vacation relief for Purchasing Agent.
  • Participates in annual physical inventory activities as requested.

 

Education

 

  • Associate's Degree, two years of college, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

 

Experience Required

 

  • 2 or more years of experience in general business, accounting or inventory control in a similar or related position. 
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead/manage others
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles, especially those pertaining to inventory control. Working knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to climb ladders and to operate equipment such as a 2-wheel dolly, forklift, typewriter, calculator and other general office equipment.  Ability to lift 50 - 70 pounds while stocking storeroom or distributing supplies to other areas of the plant.       
  • Skill in using computers to access and input data, such as in data base and spreadsheet applications.
