Position Overview

 

Employee will compile and prepare data for estimates pertaining to bids for contract(s) from project/job specifications or plans for commercial and highway.  Responsible for reviewing bids from firms for conformity to contract requirements and determining acceptable subcontractors.  You will direct activities concerned with contracts for purchase or sale/rental of equipment, materials, products, or services. Also included will be maintaining a bid log with follow up summary and market intelligence system for optimizing all vetted opportunities.  In addition you will fosters teamwork, positive work environment and overall safety of yourself and others.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Manage one or more Estimators.
  • Must possess a professional attitude while interacting with peers, contractors and general public.
  • Must be able to effectively adhere and manage all: backlog, upcoming, post bid, comps.
  • Examines performance requirements, delivery schedules, and estimates of costs of material, equipment, and production to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Advises management, planning and production departments of contractual rights and obligations including special provisions or deviations from normal specifications
  • Engage and manage project hand off process from estimating to operations for all projects booked.
  • May coordinate work with external sales team on price formulation in the market
  • Must act as liaison between company and subcontractors.
  • Promote and sell the company, and be diligent in the pursuit of opportunities, including post bid or quote, maintain tracking system on all bids or quotes and advise management periodically on updates. Track each project until a decision is made and record and review outcome.
  • Maintain high level of technical knowledge of all essential programs or software needed within our operation IE: Takeoff, HCSS, Project Pipeline, DOT software or programs
  • Must be knowledgeable of legal requirements.
  • Must understand asphalt pavement mix designs for costing of same.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with subordinates, peers and superiors.
  • Coaching, motivating, counseling, mentoring, corrective action (aka discipline), development and presentation of training to individuals and groups, monitoring and appraisal of individual performance.
    Must be able to maintain an acceptable attendance record in a flexible work schedule.
  • Must maintain at all times a strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Must be available to travel and work from other company facilities as needed.
  • Must possess a professional attitude while interacting with peers, contractors and general public.

 

Qualifications

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily according to APAC guidelines and standards. 

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
  • 5+ years estimating heavy highway construction projects, state & federal DOT Highway Projects, and Military Bases.

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule including: nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in The United States.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

 

  • Must become proficient with our CRM tool and Project Pipeline
  • Excellent proficiency in HCSS and the Microsoft office suite (Excel).
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to conduct advance mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
