Position Overview

 

The General Manager, Ready-Mix, is responsible for leading and managing our Ready-Mix Operating Company in all aspects of safety, operations, sales, finance, quality control, equipment and critical support functions with primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of Company Operational Performance and Growth Strategies.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Complete P&L responsibility for Ready-Mix business, including Sales, Operations, and Logistics.
  • Develop a five-year strategy and roadmap for the Ready-Mix business, including the proposal of strategies designed to drive future growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and manage the business.
  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees and work closely with Safety and Field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within the Company’s Ready-Mix operations.
  • Supervise and provide managerial oversight to the entire Ready-Mix team/operations.
  • Direct operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals.
  • Generate and manage an operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the Company President and achieve financial objectives by analyzing variances and initiating actions.
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards.
  • Ensure product quality and expected customer service levels are met for assigned operational sites.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Build effective teams and develop (direct reports) for future opportunities.
  • Comply with Federal, State and Local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipate future legislation, enforce adherence to requirements, and advise management on an as needed basis.
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of Ready-Mix Superintendents to ensure projects are built safely, on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process.
  • Manage Capital Expenditure Projects for assigned area.
  • Collaborate with Company President to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
  • Provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
  • Lead Ready-Mix team in personal performance management, training and development, succession planning and effective recruiting and hiring.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related discipline and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Expertise across a wide range of business functions (key focus on strategy, commercial, operations, finance and supply chain), with preference given to prior P&L management.
  • 5+ years of progressive management/executive experience in a Supply, Manufacturing or related business, with preference given for Building Products and Construction Materials Industries.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to prepare annual budgets and work with and/or administer budget; ability to answer questions and present financial data to Company President, Regional President and others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of functional areas within Ready-Mix and Sales.
  • Ability to work with peers and other members of management team from all lines of business to achieve progress towards mutual goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary oral/written communication skills.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and ability to present themselves professionally.
  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large groups of employees.
  • Strong organizational & project management skills.
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

  • Ability to communicate with civic leaders and local, state, and national policy makers.
  • Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.
  • Must be able to work independently and with groups.
  • Must be able to work under time constraints as needed.

 

General Requirements 

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations.
  • Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary
