Position Overview

As Equipment staff accountant, you will work with the Equipment Accounting Manager to ensure proper addition, transfer, and disposal of equipment within the fixed asset subledger. You will also prepare quarterly and yearly tax filings related to our fleet of equipment. You will be an integral part of our capital expenditures process, and month end financial reporting responsibilities.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Reports to the Equipment Accounting Manager, the criteria for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Setup, disposal, and transfer of company equipment.
  • Completes necessary journal entries as required.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Motus program (automobile program).
  • Responsible for the administration of the WEX program (fuel cards).
  • Tracks and maintains all equipment activity.
  • Tracks and reports on Capex budgeting, submissions, approvals, and spending.
  • Meets information requirements, completes ad hoc projects and completes financial analyses and reconciliation of accounts for the Shelly Company Vice President of Equipment.
  • Monitors financial statements/balance sheets on a monthly basis and ensures all balances are appropriately analyzed and correctly stated.
  • Monitors all accounting functions for Equipment Department to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Ensures appropriate internal control standards are maintained and/or improved throughout the Equipment Department.
  • Meets information requests of both internal and external auditors.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Requires some travel (approximately 10-15%) and the ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Limited travel and the ability to work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 
  • Strict adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP rules.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and Experience

Associates Degree required/Bachelors Degree preferred. 2-5 years related experience and/or training.  Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.  Equipment accounting experience a plus.

 

Language Skills:

The ability to read and understand various documents such as accounting guidelines, policy and procedure manuals, and safety rules. Strong written and verbal communication skills a must. The ability to hold and conduct meetings.  

 

Reasoning Ability:

Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate problems clearly and concisely by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

 

Technical:

The ability to use computers with a proficiency in Hyperion, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Viewpoint experience a plus.

The employee may occasionally bend, kneel, squat, climb, stand, walk or drive.

Continuously 0-10lbs and occasionally 10-25lbs.

Work Environment

The work environment will continuously include working with others.

The work environment may occasionally include; hot weather, cold weather, wet weather, exposed to noise, exposed to high heat and moving equipment.
