Paving Foreperson Job Description         

Position Summary

The Callanan Paving Foreperson will lead a union paving crew to pave roads, highways, runways, parking lots and other construction related operations. This position ensures that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise union paving crews involved in asphalt paving, milling, grading, and related roadway construction activities.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily work assignments to meet production and quality goals.
  • Direct crew members in the safe and efficient operation of paving equipment, rollers, skid steers, and other construction machinery.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Conduct daily job site safety meetings and enforce all OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements.
  • Monitor paving operations to ensure proper asphalt placement, compaction, grade, and overall workmanship.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment utilization, and labor resources to maximize efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly with Project Managers, Superintendents, Dispatch, Quality Control personnel, customers and subcontractors regarding project progress and jobsite needs.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, including labor hours, equipment usage, production quantities, and safety documentation.
  • Identify and address workforce, equipment, and operational issues to minimize delays and downtime.
  • Train, mentor, and develop crew members while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years as an asphalt paving foreman
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving methods, materials, equipment, and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, grades, and staking information.
  • Ability to effectively lead union employees in a productive and professional manner.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and varying shifts as project schedules require.

Preferred

  • Previous leadership experience
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Traffic Control certification.
  • CDL

  • Ability to plan work, manage schedules, and prioritize tasks.

  • Knowledge of paving quality standards and production requirements.

Salary and Benefits: 

  • This is a prevailing wage position with a wage and benefit range of $80-$100/hr.
