About the role 

 

We are currently looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic IT Internal Controls & Compliance Specialist to join our IT team based in Amsterdam. 

Reporting directly to our Head of Controlling – Europe IT, the purpose of this role is to act as the second line of defence to ensure that IT controls executed by IT business owners within both Operating Companies and Europe IT, are performed in a controlled, effective and compliant manner.  

In this role you’ll work with internal and external service providers to support improvements and ensure that when new services or processes are introduced, the right controls are in place. You’ll also lead the process of closure of open audit findings resulting from both internal and external audits.  

You’ll also collaborate effectively with the wider Europe IT team, Operating Companies and Internal and External Audit stakeholders, ensuring that our Europe CIO, Europe IT Leadership Team and the CFO EMAT (European Materials) are regularly informed and updated on IT control and compliance matters. 

 

Main responsibilities 

 

In this role you’ll: 

  • Oversee internal controls compliance in existing solutions and processes across EMAT IT 

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support and advise IT process owners when designing and introducing new processes/ services or changes to existing processes/ services, to ensure the necessary IT controls are embedded and that compliance will be achieved at go-live. 

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support and advise project teams, ensuring the implementation of the right controls framework for new solutions (as part of the project life cycle) and that compliance will be achieved post go-live. Input and keep abreast of changes to CRH Group’s SoX and Internal Controls requirements, evaluating and highlighting the impact of any changes to IT management and IT process owners, ensuring these changes are incorporated. 

  • Work with internal and external IT service providers in Europe IT and in Operating Companies to identify areas for improvement and then work to deliver these improvements. 

  • During the annual external audit cycle, provide Senior Management with clear overview of progress, emerging observations, resolution plans and highlight significant issues. 

  • Work with all IT service providers and process owners at EMAT to lead the process of closure of open actions resulting from internal and external audits. 

  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of closure of open audit findings to Senior Management and to the IT Risk Committee. 

  • Engage and collaborate effectively with key stakeholders including but not limited to Europe ITLT, European Material CFO, all IT Service Providers, European Materials IT Managers, IT Risk Managers, Internal Controls Managers and Group Information Security. 

 

Experience & Qualifications

 

To be successful in this role you’ll need: 

  • The ability to operate effectively at multiple levels, understanding and explaining the ‘big picture’ to senior stakeholders succinctly in a business manner, but also be able to work through the detail as and when required. 

  • To be confident and capable, taking the lead in multi-stakeholder meetings, driving the discussion to the right outcome.  

  • The ability to quickly understand ‘the business’ and forge trusting and effective working relationships with all stakeholders. 

  • Critical thinking: To be able to apply process, analysis and problem-solving techniques as and when required. 

  • To persuade & motivate others by collaboration & cooperation; be able to interact effectively with staff at all levels and from all cultural backgrounds. 

  • The ability to proactively communicate observations and other feedback in an open, collaborative, honest and constructive manner. 

  • Demonstrable analytical skills with the ability to bring abstract frameworks to practical workings.  

  • An aptitude for improvement and innovation and the ability to embrace change and drive improvement and innovation.  

  • The ability to efficiently manage your workload, prioritising effectively to deliver results. 

  • A Degree (or equivalent) in IT Auditing with preference for professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, RA, etc.  

  • Significant experience in a similar function or in an Internal Audit or External Audit function. 

  • Experienced in working with internal control frameworks, including SoX.
