Equipment Manager
Lead Operations. Develop Teams. Drive Fleet Performance.
The Equipment Manager is a key operational leader responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of our equipment maintenance operations. In this role, you will oversee shop operations, lead maintenance teams across multiple locations, and drive initiatives that maximize fleet availability, reliability, and productivity.

What You'll Do
Safety & Leadership
- Champion a proactive, employee-driven safety culture and ensure compliance with all company, OSHA, and/or MSHA requirements.
- Lead, coach, and develop shop foremen, lead technicians, and maintenance personnel to achieve operational excellence.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance discussions, provide ongoing feedback, and support employee development and growth opportunities.
Maintenance & Operational Excellence
- Oversee all shop operations and maintenance activities to ensure timely, high-quality repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Establish and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program that improves fleet reliability and equipment uptime.
- Drive a sense of urgency around repairs and service delivery to support production goals and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor shop productivity and technician performance through activity reviews, performance metrics, and visual management tools.
- Ensure accurate review and approval of technician labor hours and maintenance documentation.
Fleet & Vendor Management
- Evaluate repair strategies and determine the most efficient use of internal and external resources.
- Manage vendor relationships and outsourced repair programs to ensure quality workmanship and cost-effective solutions.
- Support sourcing initiatives by maximizing participation in national and local supplier programs.
- Review and approve purchases in accordance with company procurement policies and approval processes.
- Oversee tire management programs and equipment maintenance strategies in alignment with company standards.
Business Partnership & Planning
- Partner closely with operations leaders to understand equipment needs and ensure fleet readiness.
- Communicate regularly with operational teams regarding maintenance priorities, repair status, and equipment availability.
- Participate in equipment planning, forecasting, and fleet optimization initiatives to support business growth and efficiency.
- Leverage data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improved utilization, cost control, and operational effectiveness.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance shop management, fleet management, or equipment leadership experience.
- Strong leadership and team development skills with experience managing supervisors, leads, and technicians.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, repair processes, and equipment management best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain driving privileges in accordance with company standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience utilizing electronic fleet or equipment management systems.
- P&L, budgeting, or cost management experience.
- Experience in aggregates, construction, mining, heavy equipment, transportation, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, and procurement experience.
- Experience leading change initiatives and driving continuous improvement efforts.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to work in shop, field, and production environments.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support multiple operations and maintenance locations.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs when operational needs require.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
