Job Summary

 

This position is responsible for successfully executing, planning and implementing both tactical and strategic HR and Talent Management processes and initiatives across the Lawn & Garden Division of Oldcastle APG.  The position will report directly to the President of Lawn & Garden and functionally to the Vice-President of Human Resources for Oldcastle APG.  The business division is comprised of three (3) operating regions and Division’s Sales Group that spans geographically across approximately 40 locations in various states with approximately 1,100 employees.

 

Focus & Areas of Responsibilities

 

  • HR Partner – partner with the Division President, Regional VPs/General Managers, VP of Sales & Marketing and Regional HR Managers and other Company leadership staff (i.e. Site/Plant Managers, Operational & Functional VPs) to drive and execute the overall HR and Talent management strategies across the business.  Must have great internal customer focus, strong collaborative style and proven influencing skills
  • Recruiting- workforce planning/development across the division supporting local, regional and national recruiting and succession efforts
  • Retention – assist Business President, VP/General Managers and HR professionals with performance management and employee engagement & development programs.  Influence an environment that supports our desire to be the “employer of choice” throughout the industry and the communities where we work and live.
  • Training/Coaching – develop strategies for divisional & regional training programs to ensure employees and organizational needs are being met. Foster mentoring skills to create a culture of career development, professional growth and development within the business
  • People Development - partner with Division President, VP/General Managers and Regional HR Managers on people development initiatives; developing strong present and future leadership talent
  • Employment Practices - ensure effective management processes and procedures that supports not only the letter of the law but the spirit of the law.
  • Employee / Labor Relations – partner with senior leaders and Regional HR Managers to encourage positive employee relations guidance and support to the business & ensure an optimal environment exists for employees to perform at their best while meeting the needs of the business.  Ensure legal compliance and consistency in the handling of employee matters.  This may include, providing active input related to promotions, performance issues, terminations/disciplinary actions, layoffs/RIFs, EEO complaints/lawsuits, assist in union contract negotiations; partnering with Regional HR Managers to identify issues within facilities and proactively addressing them
  • Functional Leadership Division’s HR Team - Responsible to guide, develop & mentor team of 3 Regional HR Managers
  • Supervisory Responsibility – oversee centralized HR Administrative function with  direct supervision of one on site HR Administrator

 

Requirements / Education / Experience

 

  • 8 plus years of progressive Human Resources responsibility / experience at levels of increasing levels of scope of authority and HR responsibility
  • 5 plus years of Human Resources management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University or College, preferably in Business and/or Human Resources
  • Experience with supporting multi-unit, geographically dispersed operations
  • Ability & willingness to travel 50% of the time
  • Professional certification desired but not required
  • Collective bargaining experience a plus
