CRH's Americas Materials business is the leading provider of building materials in North America. The aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete, paving and construction services we deliver are critical to building our world. Our operations span 45 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces with over 30,000 employees across 1,700 operating locations.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Basis Manager to lead the SAP Basis team supporting our SAP technology stack, including SAP S/4HANA (RISE Private Cloud), SuccessFactors, Commerce Cloud, BTP, and other applications such as ADP Workforce and Vertex Tax. This role owns the strategy, operational health, and team leadership for Basis across the landscape — setting direction for system architecture and performance, building and developing a high-performing Basis team, and holding SI and AMS partners accountable to delivery and service commitments. The ideal candidate combines deep SAP Basis expertise with proven people-management experience and is comfortable operating as both a hands-on technical leader and a manager who develops talent and drives cross-technology alignment.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Team Leadership & People Management
- Hire, lead, mentor, and develop a team of Basis Leads and Administrators, setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and building career development plans
- Establish on-call rotations, workload distribution, and coverage models to ensure 24x7 support for critical SAP systems
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and proactive problem-solving within the Basis team
Strategy & Operations
- Own the Basis roadmap and strategy across SAP S/4HANA, RISE, BTP (Integration Suite, Datasphere, Cloud ALM), SuccessFactors, Commerce Cloud, and acquired platforms
- Define and enforce standards for system configuration, performance tuning, and availability across all SAP instances
- Oversee capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategy for the SAP landscape
- Drive automation and tooling investments to reduce manual effort and improve system reliability
- Serve as the escalation point for critical technical incidents and complex root-cause investigations
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with SI and AMS partners, holding them accountable to SOWs, SLAs, and delivery timelines
- Coordinate with SAP ECS and infrastructure/network teams on RISE-managed systems and hybrid architecture
- Own the Basis budget, including infrastructure, cloud consumption, and licensing costs, identifying cost-optimization opportunities
- Provide regular status, risk, and performance reporting to senior leadership and program stakeholders
Program & Governance
- Lead Basis planning and execution for cutover, data migration, and go-live activities across major implementations
- Establish and govern change management, patching, and system documentation practices across all SAP instances
- Partner with Security and Development managers to ensure Basis practices align with security and compliance requirements
