This is a highly skilled position involving the operation of Heavy Equipment on Road Construction projects. Applicants must have at least three years of experience operating equipment (ex: Motorgrader, Bulldozer, Excavator, Front End Loader). Road Construction project experience preferred

 

Summary


APAC, AL is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Backhoe/Broom Operator to support construction, paving, and roadway maintenance operations. This position is responsible for operating backhoes and power broom equipment to perform excavation, trenching, material handling, site cleanup, and roadway sweeping activities. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


•    Safely operate backhoe and broom equipment in support of construction and paving projects.
•    Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handlings activities.
•    Operate power broom equipment to clean roads, paving surfaces, shoulders, and construction areas. 
•    Remove debris, dirt, excess aggregate, and other materials to prepare surfaces for paving or project completion.
•    Assist paving, utility, site development, and maintenance crews as needed.
•    Read and follow project plans, grade stakes, and supervisor instructions.
•    Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment.
•    Maintain awareness of underground utilities, overhead obstructions, and nearby personnel.
•    Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines.
•    Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew member, truck drivers, and other equipment operators. 
•    Assist with general labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
•    Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Education and/or Experience


•    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.  Previous experience is required.
Experience
•    Minimum of 2 years of experience operating backhoe equipment preferred.
•    Experience operating construction sweepers or power broom equipment preferred.
•    Experience in road construction, asphalt paving, utility work, or heavy civil construction preferred.


Other Skills and Abilities


•    Knowledge of safe heavy equipment operating procedures.
•    Ability to operate backhoes and power broom equipment efficiently and safely.
•    Understanding of excavation, trenching, utility installation, and roadway construction practices.
•    Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and follow safe work procedures.
•    Strong communication and teamwork skills.
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•    Commitment to quality workmanship and production efficiency.
•    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
