Summary:  Perform plant tasks involving physical labor for plant cleaning and labor support to other plant departments as directed by the Production Supervisor.  May operate a variety of hand and power tools; and mobile equipment.  May clean and prepare work areas; clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials.   May assist other workers.

 

Job Scope:  Production Department, Branford, FL

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.

2. Clean the plant of materials or process spills – using brooms, shovels and 

    wheel barrels that may weigh 200 pounds full; carry buckets that weigh as  

    much as 50 pounds full; pneumatic scrapers that weigh approximately 20

    pounds; air lances ¾ inch in diameter to 3 feet to 10 feet long, that weigh

    approximately 10 pounds.

3. Remove cement build up from equipment by use of hammers and mallets that  

    weigh between 1 and 10 pounds.

4. Run mobile equipment in the plant:   loader, bobcat, forklift, manlift and dump

    truck.

5. Clean the plant by using high pressure fire hose that weighs approximately 100

    pounds and exerts approximately 100  pounds of thrust when in use.

6. Maintain a clean job site; pickup all tools and equipment and secure the job site

    each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.

7. Material handling and storage.

8. Load and unload trucks; haul and hoist materials.

9. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

10. Bring problems to the attention of the Production Supervisor and/or Manager.

11. Become proficient in the use of a Bobcat style front end loader and forklift to

     move and lift large loads and objects.

12. Perform work place exams, safety and pre-shift inspections on all mobile

     equipment.

13. Report all safety and environmental hazards to the Production Supervisor

     immediately.

14. Utilize all safety equipment, personal and otherwise, as required by MSHA

      standards and Company guidelines.

15. Attend safety meetings and trainings as scheduled.

16. Shift work may be required to complete plant occupational requirements.

17. Become cross-trained on specific plant equipment and positions on specific

     plant classifications.  Laborers may be scheduled to perform work in higher job

     classifications in the case of classification vacancies.  Laborers most be

     trained and full qualified in the case of classification vacancies.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: To assist in the training of new employees in the skills and procedures required to perform a task.

Competency:  Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities and must meet qualifications required for this position.

Analytical Skills: Complete all required departmental data, logs and reports.

Communications:  Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Initiative: Volunteers readily; undertakes self-development activities; seeks increased responsibilities; takes independent actions and calculated risks; looks for and takes advantage of opportunities; asks for help when needed.

Innovation: Ability to work under pressure.

Job Knowledge:   Experience in operating bobcat, forklift and loaders, preferred. Become proficient in the use of a Bobcat style front end loader and forklift to move and lift large loads and objects. Become cross-trained on specific plant equipment and positions on specific plant classifications.  Laborers may be scheduled to perform work in higher job classifications in the case of classification vacancies.  Laborers must be trained and full qualified in the case of classification vacancies. Shift work may be required to complete plant occupational requirements.

Judgment: To ensure safe operation of equipment and safe work practices. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

Planning & Organization: To follow all department timeline requirements.

Problem Solving: To contact Supervisor and/or Manager, as necessary.

Quality: To monitor and maintain all material flows. To ensure the quality of the products within specifications.

Teamwork: To serve as a role model in the area of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, safety and environmental stewardship, to ensure alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.

Qualifications:        High School Graduate or GED, preferred

Language Skills:     Be able to read, write and understand English.

Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills.

Reasoning Ability:   Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Computer Skills:  Basic computer understanding.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, maneuver in small spaces, and walk and stand for long periods of time. Load and unload trucks; haul and hoist materials. Material handling and storage. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor. Labor includes bending, stooping, and the ability to lift 75 pound bags and 25 to 75 pound boxes of refractory. The use of a 90 pound jackhammer may be necessary to complete some job requirements.  Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative. Of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to the plant Environment, which may include plant noise, dust and natural weather conditions.  Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
